On Friday, May 1, 2026, at approximately 07:50 hours, I, Deputy Sanders, along with patrol, received a Be on the lookout for a Ford F450 Ga plates [REDACTED] all over the road in and out of traffic, possibly DUI. I responded and waited at mile marker 188 and quickly located the vehicle.
I pulled out of my stationary position at the 188, and when I did so, the truck was behind me in the middle lane. The truck rear-ended a vehicle, yanked the wheel into the slow lane, and almost hit another car with its rear bumper. I pulled off the road so the truck could pass me, then followed it as it exited the road at the 186. I did not want the truck to get into town driving recklessly, so I conducted a traffic stop, and he pulled over at the CVS on Tift College Drive. The truck pulled over in the CVS parking lot, and I made contact with the driver.
Once at the door, I spoke with the driver, identified as Angel Padill-Carmona, and I immediately noticed an odor of alcohol coming from his person. I asked the driver to step out of the vehicle due to his slurred speech, the odor of alcohol, and red, watery, glassy eyes.
Once out, I asked the driver where he was coming from, and he repeatedly stated that he was coming from a bar in Buckhead. He then stated he was headed home in Griffin. When asked where he was, he stated he believed he was near exit 198 because he missed exit 205. When told he was at the 186, he seemed confused. I then asked the driver if he had any recent injuries to his body or head, and he stated no. He then stated he did not wear contacts or glasses. I then asked him to conduct a few exercises, and he stated he would. I then began standardized field sobriety, and it went as follows:
Horizontal Gaze nystagmus:
- Lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes
- Distinct and sustained Nystagmus at maximum deviation in both eyes.
- Onset Nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes
Walk and turn:
- Can’t balance during instructions
- misses heel to toe
- steps off line
- uses arms for balance
- improper turn
- Incorrect number of steps
One leg stand:
- sways while balancing
- uses arms
- puts foot down
I asked the driver to blow on a portable breath test, and he blew a .205 BAC. I then placed the driver in handcuffs, double locked behind his back, and checked for proper fit. I began to search the suspect for weapons and contraband, and I located in his coin pocket a clear baggy with white residue in it, which field- tested positive for Cocaine. I placed him in the back seat of my patrol car and read the green implied consent card for 21 and over for blood, and he said yes.
I then searched his truck and did not locate anything else. I then transported him to Monroe County Hospital, where they conducted a blood draw. Once done, I transported him to Monroe County Jail, where I turned him over to the jail staff. The truck was turned over to Buice. I logged and placed the DUI kit and Cocaine into evidence.
