The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office:

Monroe County (December 29, 2022) – On Thursday, December 29, 2022, at approximately 11:00 AM, Monroe County Deputies responded to a call for service at 1077 High Falls Road. The caller, a High Falls Park Ranger advised they were performing dock inspections when they attempted to contact the homeowner.

The homeowner identified as Michael Linwood Griffith, age 74 pointed a handgun at the Park Rangers, told them to get off his property or he would kill them. The Rangers retreated and called Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

Deputies responded to the address and after a brief standoff, Deputies were able to arrest Griffith. Deputies then executed a search warrant where the weapon was located.

Griffith was taken into custody by Monroe County Deputies and transported to the Lamar County Jail.

Charges are pending with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.
