On 12/11/2025 at approximately 2309 hours I, Sgt. Pierce, along with Officer Crumbley and Sgt. McCarver responded to [400 BLOCK] Treadwell Road Apartment [REDACTED] within Chatsworth, Georgia in reference to a disturbance. While en route, dispatch advised that they had an open line and could hear a male irate and cussing. They also advised that someone mentioned being punched in the head.

I arrived on scene a short time later, along with Officer Crumbley. A shirtless male was observed walking from the backside of the apartments towards the front. Officer Crumbley was speaking to a woman and motioned towards the shirtless male, indicating that he was involved. Officer Crumbley was able to stop the male and bring him back to talk. This male would later be identified as Grayson Carter.

Since Officer Crumbley was speaking to Grayson, I went and spoke to the female who would be later identified as [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] advised that she heard a lot of yelling and screaming and that she was trying to calm everything down. She then motioned me towards apartment [REDACTED] where the incident occurred.

I went inside apartment [REDACTED] where I was met by the victim, [VICTIM #1], who was sitting upright on the bed. I observed that [VICTIM #1] had something wet on him and his clothing, and I also observed [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #3] attempting to clean up the floor from liquid.

I began speaking with [VICTIM #1] who was quite intoxicated at the time. I asked what happened and he said that Grayson came to his apartment after he (Grayson) had gotten off work around 5 pm. [VICTIM #1] stated that he had been drinking along with Grayson. [VICTIM #1] said that Grayson had become too intoxicated, so [VICTIM #1] told him that he needed to go back to his own apartment.

Grayson then got agitated and punched [VICTIM #1] with a closed fist from the right hand. [VICTIM #1] stated he was punched twice. First on the left side of his face and then the right. I observed some possible slight redness after looking several different times, but I could not confidently say it was from a punch due to [VICTIM #1]’s current health and the way most of his skin looked.

[WITNESS #3] began speaking up saying that it wasn’t right for Grayson to hit an old man. [WITNESS #3] began saying that Grayson just came up and punched [VICTIM #1] in the face. The others in the room all seemed to be in agreement with what happened. The only person in the room who was not intoxicated at the time was [WITNESS #2].

I then went around to the front side of the building and spoke to Grayson. I asked Grayson to describe to me the details that happened this night. Grayson stated that it started with some kind of altercation with [VICTIM #1]’s neighbor. Grayson said he was heated first and that [VICTIM #1] started talking which made him more mad from [VICTIM #1] calling him names. Grayson stated that where he was from, getting called names like that would not just be let go.

Grayson said they had words back and forth but could not remember exactly what was said due to his intoxication. Grayson mentioned several times, without provocation, that he never laid any hands on [VICTIM #1] and did not cause any physical violence. He asked that we speak to [WITNESS #2] because she would most likely tell the truth. I asked Grayson if he at any point punched [VICTIM #1] in the face and Grayson denied any physical contact.

I went back to Apartment [REDACTED] where I spoke to [WITNESS #2] outside and away from the other individuals. I asked [WITNESS #2] what all she saw. [WITNESS #2] stated that [VICTIM #1] had told Grayson to leave the apartment which made Grayson upset. [WITNESS #2] stated that she observed Grayson jump on top of [VICTIM #1] while he was lying flat on the bed. Grayson then punched [VICTIM #1] with a closed right fist.

[WITNESS #2] said Grayson then got up and threw a box of beer at [VICTIM #1] which caused beer to get on [VICTIM #1]’s clothing and went all over the floor. [WITNESS #2] also stated that Grayson threw a fruit cup from the fridge, and an empty box of cigarettes.

At this point I determined from the physical evidence and witness testimony to arrest Grayson for the charges of simple battery and disorderly conduct. I went back to apartment [REDACTED] where Grayson was inside sitting in a chair. I asked Grayson to stand up and place his hands behind his back. I placed him in handcuffs and checked for proper fit.

I searched him incident to arrest and walked him to my patrol vehicle where he was secured in the back seat. I then transported him to the Murray County Detention Center where he was subsequently turned over to jail staff without incident.
