On February 16, 2021 Detective Justin McEntire and I went to the Triple C’s convenient store in reference to observing some video surveillance footage of three suspects entering the store and stealing money from a slot machine.
When observing the footage, we noticed three male subjects inside the store. One of the males, who we could not identified at this time, was wearing a black coat, with a black mask covering his facial features, a white and dark multi-colored toboggan. The male subject appeared to have a tattoo on his left side and right side of his neck. The tattoo on the right side was covered by the toboggan, but appeared to be some type of picture. The tattoo on the left side appeared to have some type of writings/ signature.
The other two males were later identified as Christopher Byers and Christopher Clancy. The video shown the unknown male subject walking towards the slot machine area, while Mr. Byers and Mr. Clancy were in front part common area of the store. On the game/ restroom camera footage at approximately 9:48 P.M, I observed the unknown male sit on the stool in front of slot machine #3. Immediately afterwards, I observed him reach in his right coat pocket and pulling out some type of key. He then placed the key on the right side of the machine, which unlocked the panel of the machine. While propping the unsecured panel with his knee, I observed the male subject looking around as if he making sure he was cleared.
At this time, I observed Mr. Byers checking on the unknown male subject. I could clearly see the unknown male subject motioning with his hands to Mr. Byers to leave. When Mr. Byers left, I observed the unknown male subject, using the key to unlock the panel again. This time, he pulled the panel down, where he gained access to the money box. The male subject then pulled the money box out and took cash money from the box. He then placed the money box back in the slot machine and closed the panel. The male subject then stood up and went to slot machine #1. He then placed money in slot machine #1.
After his credits used, he left the slot machine area. He then walked out of the store and got in the gray in color Ford Escape. The vehicle then left the store parking lot and headed south bound on Hwy 411. During theft by the unknown male subject, Mr. Byers and Mr. Clancy were shown to be in the front part of the store. I noticed the both subjects walking around the store as if they were shopping. At one time, I noticed Mr. Clancy attempt to buy alcoholic beverages. But it was my understanding by the store clerk, that she refused to sale the alcoholic beverages, because Mr. Clancy did not have his I.D.
After Mr. Byers initially entered the store, I observed him exit the store and later enter the store with a long sleeve shirt on. Mr. Byers later went back out to the vehicle and moved the Ford Escape near the front entrance to the store. All subjects entered the store from the camera footage time of 9:44 P.M. and at 9:52 P.M. During that duration time, I never seen Mr. Byers nor Mr. Clancy purchase anything from the store.
After viewing the video footage, Det. McEntire advised that he recognized Mr. Byers from a previous incident that he had worked. As for Mr. Clancy’s identity, Det. McEntire had shown the video footage to a [WITNESS #1] subject, who without hesitation identified Mr. Clancy from the video. I later pulled a picture from our computer system and identified Mr. Clancy as the subject from the video footage.
I ran both subjects information through our data base and Mr. Byers was shown to have suspended license for Child Support Obligations. I also discovered Mr. Byers was charged with driving while license were suspended in Whitfield County, on Jan 2021. I took a warrant on Mr. Byers for driving while license suspended and Theft by taking. I then took a warrant on Mr. Clancy for theft by taking. I’m currently in search for the other unknown male subject.
