On 8/14/2022, at approximately 0237 hours, I was patrolling Veterans Parkway near Desmond Drive when I observed a black Hyundai Sonata without taillights. I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. I exited my patrol car and met with the driver. Upon approach, I asked the driver for her driver’s license. She was identified as Zayna Hartman. I advised her the reason for the stop. I observed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. She then exited the vehicle to show me that she had broken taillights, and she recently had work done to them.
I asked her how much she had to drink tonight, and she stated 2 or 3. I conducted the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. I observed 6 clues. She displayed bloodshot and watery eyes. I observed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. Due to the unsafe location of the traffic stop, no other tests were conducted. She provided a breath sample for the Alco-Sensor which was positive for alcohol (0.109).
I placed her into handcuffs and advised her that she was under arrest for DUI. I read her Georgia’s Implied Consent for Suspects Age 21 or over. She gave a verbal yes to the state administered blood test. Her vehicle was released to her grandmother. I transported her to Saint Francis Hospital for the blood draw. Upon arrival, [REDACTED] administered the blood draw. Afterwards, I transported her to Muscogee County Jail where she was released to the jail staff for booking procedures. The blood samples were properly sealed and sent to the GBI Crime Lab for analysis.
