On September 27, 2026, I, Deputy Reddick, responded to a call in the area of Access Road in Covington GA in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival, I spoke with the complainant, [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that he was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle traveling along the roadway when the suspect, identified as Mr. Curtis Love, stepped in front of the vehicle, placed his hand out, and ordered the vehicle to stop.

[VICTIM #1] stated that Mr. Love then approached the passenger side of the vehicle, where [VICTIM #1] was seated. [VICTIM #1] stated that Mr. Love reached through the passenger-side window and struck him across the face with a black pistol. I observed a severe laceration to the bridge of [VICTIM #1]’ nose.

[VICTIM #1] stated that he then exited the vehicle. [VICTIM #1] advised that Mr. Love and another male, later identified as Mr. [WITNESS #1], began striking him. [VICTIM #1] stated that Mr. [WITNESS #1] punched him in the side while Mr. Love continued to strike him.

I then spoke with Mr. Love, who provided a different account of the incident. Mr. Love stated that [VICTIM #1] and the driver, identified as Mr. [VICTIM #2], were traveling down the roadway and that he stood in front of the vehicle with his hands raised in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Mr. Love stated that he told Mr. [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #1] that they were driving too fast down the roadway.

Upon initial contact with Mr. Love, I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.

Mr. Love stated that [VICTIM #1] exited the passenger side of the vehicle and swung at him, but the punch did not make contact. Mr. Love stated that after [VICTIM #1] missed the punch, he struck [VICTIM #1] approximately 8-10 times in his face before stopping.

I then spoke with, Mr. [VICTIM #2]. Mr. [VICTIM #2] stated that Mr. Love stepped in front of the vehicle and stated that Mr. [VICTIM #2] was driving too fast. Mr. [VICTIM #2] stated that Mr. Love and Mr. [WITNESS #1] approached the vehicle and began arguing with him and [VICTIM #1]. Mr. [VICTIM #2] stated that Mr. Love struck [VICTIM #1] through the passenger side window.

Mr. [VICTIM #2] stated that [VICTIM #1] exited the vehicle, followed by Mr. [VICTIM #2]. Mr. [VICTIM #2] stated that after he exited the vehicle, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him and stated that he was going to shoot him.

Mr. [VICTIM #2] further stated that Mr. [WITNESS #1] attempted to grab him by his shirt in a attempt to strike him, while Mr. Love was pointing the firearm at him. Mr. [VICTIM #2] advised that he and [VICTIM #1] were able to get away from the suspects. They then went to the office and contacted 911.

I then spoke with Mr. [WITNESS #1]. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he heard yelling and screaming outside. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he observed [VICTIM #1] and Mr. Love fighting and ran over to stop the altercation. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he observed [VICTIM #1] and Mr. Love pushing each other but did not see who struck the other first.

Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he stepped between Mr. Love and [VICTIM #1] in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that while trying to deescalate the situation he hear someone say something about a gun, though he did not see a gun, though he did hear something drop that sounded like a bottle.

Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that after separating the two parties, he told Mr. [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #1] to get into the vehicle and drive away.

Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that as Mr. [VICTIM #2] was attempting to drive away, Mr. Love again approached the vehicle and attempted to open the drivers side door. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he grabbed Mr. Love and pulled him away from the vehicle, allowing [VICTIM #1] and Mr. [VICTIM #2] to leave the area.

Deputies on scene subsequently searched Mr. Love and Mr. [WITNESS #1] while detaining them during the investigation. No firearm was located on either individual.

Mr. Love was placed under arrest on the applicable charges, and warrants are being obtained. Mr. Love was handcuffed behind his back and checked for proper fit and security. Mr. Love was then transported to the Newton County Jail for booking.

Upon arrival at the Newton County Jail, Mr. Love was denied admission due to his level of intoxication. Jail staff advised that Mr. Love would need to be medically cleared before he could be accepted and booked into the facility.

Mr. Love was transported for medical clearance prior to being booked into the Newton County Jail.
