On Tuesday June 10, 2026 at 1041 Hours, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from an anonymous complainant regarding a black Chevrolet Silverado that had run off the road several times. The caller reported the driver was asleep at the light at Dr M L King Jr Avenue at US Highway 278.

When deputies from NCSO and officers from City of Covington Police Department made contact with the male, he was still asleep. He did not wake up until 2 doses of narcan were administered. After being woken up, the male was relocated to a parking lot out of the roadway. The male denied the use of any drugs or narcotics, prescribed or non-prescribed. The male provided a breath sample on the PBT, which showed negative results for alcohol. Following SFST/ARIDE evaluations, a deputy with the H.E.A.T. unit placed the male under arrest. A search post-arrest resulted in finding suspected methamphetamine in the male’s left pocket.
