On 4/22/2026, at approximately 1624, I, Dep. Glenn responded to a hit-and-run traffic crash in the area of [6300 BLOCK] Colham Ferry Rd. Before my arrival, the complainant told dispatch that an older model Honda sedan struck her vehicle, then fled down Colham Ferry Rd. Initially, it was dispatched that the Honda was headed towards Watkinsville after leaving the scene of the crash. When I arrived, the complainant told me that the Honda drove southbound on Colham Ferry Rd after the crash.
The complainant, who was in a FedEx delivery van, told me that she and the Honda were both traveling southbound on Colham Ferry Rd prior to the crash. The complainant slowed, looking for her delivery address. The complainant put on her turn signal when she located the address, and slowed, preparing to make her turn. As the complainant began negotiating her left turn, the driver of the Honda attempted to pass her vehicle. The driver of the Honda crossed the double solid yellow line separating both lanes of travel, and attempted to pass the complainant’s vehicle as it turned.
The right side of the Honda sideswiped the front left of the complainant’s vehicle. After the crash occurred, the driver of the Honda got out and began yelling at the complainant. The driver of the Honda told the complainant that she had been driving too slow, and she was the one responsible for the crash. When asked for his insurance information, the driver of the Honda told the complainant that he had it at his house.
The driver of the Honda told the complainant that she should follow him to his house, then started to drive away. The complainant did not follow. The complainant told me that there should be a lot of damage to the right side of the Honda.
Sgt. Ogan responded to the crash with me, and began driving further southbound to try to locate the Honda. He was able to find the Honda at [5200 BLOCK] Colham Ferry Rd, and told me over the radio that there was right side damage consistent with the crash that just occurred. Sgt. Ogan provided the license plate [REDACTED] for the Honda. Dispatch alerted us that the Honda’s registration was suspended, and there was no insurance coverage on it.
Sgt. Ogan located the driver at the residence, and spoke with him until I arrived. The driver of the Honda was identified as Jamorious Smith. Once at the residence, I saw that the right side of the Honda was wet, and that there was noticeable damage. Mr. Smith told Sgt. Ogan that he was involved in the crash, but had permission from the complainant to leave the scene.
Mr. Smith told me the complainant paid him $500 after the crash to fix his vehicle. He told us the money was inside his residence. He gave Sgt. Ogan permission to go inside his residence to look at the money if we weren’t sure he was being honest. Sgt. Ogan did locate $500 inside the residence.
I placed Mr. Smith under arrest, searched him, then secured him into my vehicle. I read him the Miranda warning, and he agreed to speak with me. Mr. Smith told me that he tried to wash his car when he got home because he was mad it was damaged in the crash. He could not provide any insurance documents, but told me that he was insured through HUGO. Using the HUGO lienholder support website, I looked up Mr. Smith’s vehicle and learned that his insurance coverage was cancelled 2/10/2026.
After arresting Mr. Smith, I followed up with the complainant. She denied giving any money to Mr. Smith. The witness to this crash corroborated the complainant’s version of events. Mr. Smith was taken to the jail, and turned over without incident. He was charged with hit-and-run, no insurance, and a no passing zone violation.
