The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office on June 10, 2025.
Update: On Monday, June 9, 2025, at approximately 2:25 PM, Paulding County E-911 received a call reporting a possible shooting near the intersection of Ridge Road and Cohran Store Road. The caller, later identified as the victim, stated he had been involved in an altercation with a Black male driving a black SUV and that he had been shot during the encounter.
After the shooting, the victim drove himself to Paulding County Fire Station 5, located at 4215 Ridge Road, Douglasville, GA 30134, in an effort to seek emergency medical assistance. He was subsequently transported to Wellstar Paulding Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Shawn Christopher Brannon (W/M, 41 YOA) of Piedmont, Alabama.
Detectives with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office launched an immediate investigation and were able to locate both the black SUV and the suspect involved in the incident. Through investigative efforts, including the use of various techniques, Detectives identified the suspect as Collins Pruitt (B/M, 46).
The investigation revealed that the incident began as a road rage confrontation that escalated and turned deadly. Detectives located Pruitt at his residence in Cobb County, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Following interviews and a thorough review of the circumstances, Detectives determined that the shooting did not meet the legal threshold for a murder charge. As a result, Collins Pruitt has been charged with one count of Voluntary Manslaughter (F) and is currently being held without bond at the Paulding County Jail.

At this time, the victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Detectives with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating this incident and are working to locate the suspect and the vehicle involved—a black male driving a black SUV.
