Upon arrival, Deputy Walker and Sergeant Dyer approached Apartment [REDACTED]. Outside of the apartment, Deputy Walker could hear a male talking on the phone. The male then walked into a bedroom with a large window. Deputy Walker heard the male say that the police were there. Deputy Walker then knocked on the apartment door, but no one answered. Deputy Walker knocked on a bedroom window to the right of the door and Sergeant Dyer knocked on the other window.
After a few minutes, a female, later identified as the victim, [VICTIM #1], opened the door. [VICTIM #1] asked if she could get shoes on, which Sergeant Dyer advised that she could. A longer time then it should have taken to get shoes passed and Deputy Walker opened the door. [VICTIM #1] was standing across from the door and the male/suspect, Marquavian Collins, was standing directly behind [VICTIM #1]. Deputy Walker instructed both [VICTIM #1] and Marquavian to step outside of the residence. Both agreed and stepped out of the residence.
Deputy Walker interviewed Marquavian, while Sergeant Dyer interviewed [VICTIM #1]. Deputy Walker first asked if anyone else was inside the residence, which Marquavian responded that his son was. Marquavian stated that his son was 4 or 5 years old. Marquavian stated that he was supposed to be taking his son and daughter with him to his mother’s residence. However, Marquavian and [VICTIM #1] were involved in a verbal altercation. Marquavian denied any physical altercation and advised that he only wanted to pack his property and leave.
Deputy Walker asked Marquavian if his mother was coming to pick him up, which Marquavian advised that [VICTIM #1] was supposed to take him and their two children. Deputy Walker then had Marquavian show him inside, where Deputy Walker found Marquavian had packed his bags on the couch as he described. Deputy Walker also noticed a fresh cut on the inside of Marquavian’s left forearm near the bend in his elbow. The cut appeared to be from a fingernail and Deputy Walker speculated that it could be a defensive wound. At that time, Sergeant Dyer stepped into the threshold of the doorway and asked Deputy Walker if he wanted to switch interviewees.
After Deputy Walker interviewed Marquavian, Deputy Walker met with [VICTIM #1] outside of the apartment by the stairs. [VICTIM #1] appeared to be visibly shaken and was concerned to be overheard by Marquavian. [VICTIM #1] explained that the night prior she had stayed up late to watch television. During that time, Marquavian accused [VICTIM #1] staying up late to talk to another man on the phone. The altercation carried into the incident date and time, where Marquavian continued to accuse [VICTIM #1] of cheating. [VICTIM #1] stopped her statement there and had tears in her eyes. Deputy Walker paused for a moment before asking questions.
Deputy Walker noticed reddening around [VICTIM #1]’ neck. Deputy Walker asked why [VICTIM #1]’ neck was so red, which she replied vaguely it was him. [VICTIM #1] then clearly stated that Marquavian had pushed her down on the bed and used his hands to “choke” her. [VICTIM #1] advised that during the strangulation she was holding their less than one-year-old daughter.
Deputy Walker looked closer at the redness on [VICTIM #1]’ neck and could see faint lines that appeared to be finger marks. At the end of a finger mark on the left side of [VICTIM #1]’ neck, Deputy Walker noticed a cut at the end of the mark, which would match fingernails. Deputy Walker examined the other three finger marks on the left side of [VICTIM #1]’ neck, but did not see any finger nail marks. On the right side of [VICTIM #1]’ neck, Deputy Walker found a light abrasion and scratch, which Deputy Walker speculated to come from Marquavian’s thumb.
Deputy Walker asked [VICTIM #1] if she remembered reacting at all, which [VICTIM #1] denied reacting to Marquavian strangling her. Although [VICTIM #1] denied reacting, the scratch mark on the inside of Marquavian’s arm did match a defensive wound obtained during strangulation.
While Deputy Walker interviewed [VICTIM #1], Sergeant Dyer exited the apartment alone. Deputy Walker made an “arrest” gesture to Sergeant Dyer, which Sergeant Dyer agreed. Deputy Walker then went into the apartment and informed Marquavian that he was under arrest. Marquavian put on a shirt and changed his pants. Deputy Walker had Marquavian place his hands behind his back, placed handcuffs on Marquavian, double locked the handcuffs, and checked them for fit.
Marquavian was then take to the passenger side of Deputy Walker’s patrol car, where Deputy Walker searched Marquavian’s person as a search incident to arrest. The search did not reveal any illicit substances or weapons and Marquavian was seated in the rear passenger seat. Deputy Walker ensured that Marquavian had his seatbelt on, but Marquavian took it off shortly after and stated he did not want to wear a seatbelt.
After Marquavian was secured, Deputy Walker moved the patrol vehicle to Apartment [REDACTED]. Deputy Walker requested to take photos of [VICTIM #1]’ injuries, which she allowed. Further, [VICTIM #1] reported that Marquavian punched her in the left elbow, which had slight bruising. Deputy Walker photographed [VICTIM #1]’ elbow as well. Deputy Walker then had [VICTIM #1] complete a written statement, provided [VICTIM #1] with a case card, and a Family Violence Brochure. Sergeant Dyer remained on scene with [VICTIM #1] and Deputy Walker transported Marquavian to the Paulding County Jail without incident.
Let it be known, Marquavian was on probation for a Family Violence Offense involving [VICTIM #1]. There have been approximately two arrests of Family Violence involving Marquavian as the suspect and [VICTIM #1] as the victim. The photos and a photocopy of the written statement were uploaded to a file on the Sheriff’s Office I: Drive under this case number.
On October 12, 2025, at approximately 6:32 PM, Paulding County Magistrate Judge Johnson signed an arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault by Strangulation, Warrant Number 25-2752.
