On 4-7-2024, Sgt. Winfrey and I were dispatched to Target in reference to a white male moving the complainants lawn mower behind Juicy Crab and taking the key. I arrived and made contact with the complainant, [VICTIM #1] and the suspect, Maxwell Thompson in a white Ford truck.

[VICTIM #1] is doing lawn soaping for the Target shopping complex. [VICTIM #1] was over by Rack Room Shoes working and was on his way back to the Toro 2000 lawn mower that was in the Target parking lot. The key to the lawn mower was left in the ignition. [VICTIM #1] observed a white male riding the lawn mower around the Target parking lot. [VICTIM #1] then observed the male put the lawn mower behind Juicy Crab and then get into a white Ford truck and drive off. [VICTIM #1] then called 911 to make a report.

I spoke to Maxwell and he tossed me the lawn mower key and I was trying to figure out what happened and he stated that he saw the lawn mower in the parking lot and contacted Target and he stated that someone from Target stated that someone dropped it off in the parking lot and wanted it gone. Maxwell stated he moved the mower and was going to go by the Hiram Police Department and tell us. I read him miranda warning and started to ask him very specific questions. I asked him if called 911 and he said, “no”. He believed the lawn mower was stolen and was hiding it from the thieves. I asked him if the lawn mower was his and he said, “no”.

I handed the key to [VICTIM #1] so he can retrieve the lawn mower. [VICTIM #1] also provided me with a written statement. See case file.

[VICTIM #1] wanted to press charges. I looked up city ordinance disorderly conduct subsection 2. and states place the property of another in serious danger of being destroyed or damaged. I informed Maxwell he was under arrest and I placed him in handcuffs, checked for proper fit and double locked them. I checked him for any weapons. Prior to placing him in the rear of my vehicle, I checked the rear seat area. I transported him to the Paulding County Jail and released him and his property into their custody. I issued Maxwell a citation for disorderly conduct. After Maxwell got out of my vehicle, I did check the rear seat area.
