On the date of February 6, 2025, reporting deputy (R/D) Michael Whitley #539 with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Division, while working my assigned duties at Hiram High School was notified to go to room 208 to meet with Dr. [WITNESS #1], by Mr. [WITNESS #2] at Hiram High School.

R/D met Dr. [WITNESS #1], assistant principal at Hiram High School, in the 200 hallway and he advised that admin had gotten information that TraQuan Johnson had a gun in his possession. R/D went to 208 with Dr. [WITNESS #1] and Dr. [WITNESS #3], assistant principal at Hiram High School, to contact Mr. Johnson. Dr. [WITNESS #3] opened the classroom door and asked the teacher for Mr. Johnson and told him to bring everything with him. Mr. Johnson packed all his belongings up and stepped outside where Dr. [WITNESS #3] grabbed his book bag.

After getting Mr. Johnson out of his class, Dr. [WITNESS #1], Dr. [WITNESS #3] and I walked Mr. Johnson to Mrs. [WITNESS #4]’s, assistant principal at Hiram High School, office. Once in the office, they asked Mr. Johnson if he had anything on him that he was not supposed to have, and Mr. Johnson stated “I have a gun in my book bag.” R/D then grabbed Mr. Johnson’s book bag and started to look for the gun. Mr. Johnson advised R/D that the gun was in the top pocket inside the bag.

R/D found the pocket that Mr. Johnson was talking about and pulled out a black in color Smith & Wesson SD40 pistol (serial number DVH9579). R/D then cleared the pistol and found that the pistol was not loaded but did have four (4) rounds of ammunition in the magazine. R/D then secured the weapon while the administration searched Mr. Johnson and his belongings. Once everything was searched and nothing was found, R/D secured the weapon in his patrol vehicle for safekeeping.

Once the weapon was secure, R/D advised Mr. Johnson that he was under arrest for bringing the weapon to school. R/D then placed Mr. Johnson into handcuffs, which were then checked for fit and double-locked. Mr. Johnson was then walked up to the front of the school and placed into R/D’s assigned vehicle. After being placed into the vehicle, R/D buckled Mr. Johnson’s seat belt and secured the back door. R/D transported Mr. Johnson to the detention center without incident for his charges.

Warrant Numbers 25-738 and 25-739 were granted by Judge Valbuena and were turned over to the detention center.
