PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. – A woman was fatally shot by Hiram police after allegedly stabbing a man to death at an apartment complex in Paulding County. Authorities say officers attempted to use a Taser to subdue the woman, but when it failed, and she advanced toward them with a knife, they opened fire.
The incident occurred around 1:14 p.m. on Sunday at the Columns Apartment Complex on Bill Carruth Parkway. Police responded to reports of an aggravated assault and found a male victim suffering from severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to officials, the female suspect refused to drop her weapon despite commands from officers. A Taser was deployed but was ineffective. As she moved toward officers still armed, they fired their weapons. The woman was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities believe the suspect and victim knew each other and were involved in a domestic dispute before the violence escalated.
No officers were injured in the confrontation. The three officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the inquiry into the incident, with assistance from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and the Hiram Police Department.
Neighbors expressed shock over the event, describing the apartment complex as a typically quiet area. Dashcam footage from a witness showed the suspect sitting beside the victim’s body in the parking lot before police arrived.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved as the investigation continues.
