On Thursday September 18, 2025, at 0243 hours, I responded to 1156 Broad Street (Naman Hotels/Victim) in reference to an abandoned building on fire.
On arrival, Augusta Fire found the abandoned building engulfed in flames. Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 0251 hours. While providing traffic control, [WITNESS #1] (Witness), approached us and stated that a tall white male wearing a white shirt and white hat walked past her stating, “See that sh*t? We lit that, gunna do it again tomorrow.” [WITNESS #1] stated that her friend on Facetime heard the same statement, and screen recorded him walking past them so she could obtain a photo.
[WITNESS #1] stated that she was also approached by an unknown black male who also heard the same statement. [WITNESS #1] also stated that she saw the male walk around the building several times before he made the statement to her. [WITNESS #1] provided the photo, which was uploaded to Axon evidence. [WITNESS #1] provided a written statement for Fire Investigator 3 Lt. Cadle which was uploaded to Axon Evidence.
Deputies spotted a male matching the statement given by [WITNESS #1] walk past us at 12th Street and Broad St. After [WITNESS #1] told us what she heard, the male had already made it across the street to Firestone at 1213 Broad St. Deputies attempted to stop the subject to talk to him when he ran from us on foot.
I, Deputy Amanda Bruneio and Deputy Ronald Borders pursued the subject on foot. Sgt. Ryan DiGiacomo was able to catch up to the subject in his vehicle before getting out on foot and running after the subject at Jones St behind the Pizza Joint (1245 Broad St). Sgt. Ryan DiGiacomo told the subject to stop running before deploying his taser. At that time, I, Deputy Bruneio was able to catch up on foot and place the subject in handcuffs.
We identified the subject as Cameron Perkins (Arrestee), who stated that he did not do anything wrong and ran because he was scared of us. Perkins was read Miranda. Perkins stated that he did not say he burned down the building to others. Deputies found a lighter in Perkins left shorts pocket while we were looking for his ID. Deputies also found a mostly empty bottle of Jose Cuervo Tequila where Perkins was taken into custody. When questioned by investigators, Perkins stated that he was behind the building when the fire started and stated we were arresting an FBI Agent. Perkins stated he told the witnesses that he said, “man someone must have set the building on fire and will do it again.”
After returning to my vehicle, another witness, [WITNESS #2], stated that they were riding across the 13th Street bridge when they spotted the fire. [WITNESS #2] stated he and his friends pulled over across the street from the fire and the same male passed them stating, “Yall see that sh*t. I did that sh*t for New York and I’m going to do another one tomorrow.” [WITNESS #2] stated he saw the male walking across the street with a bottle in his hand before deputies pursued him. [WITNESS #2] also provided a written statement to Fire Investigator 3, Lt. Cadle which is uploaded to Axon Evidence.
Perkins was placed into vehicle 306 and transported to the jail by Deputy Borders.
The tequila and lighter were placed on property receipt 499240 and turned into evidence at 400 Walton Way.
Warrants were applied for. [REDACTED] in records notified.
