On Monday, April 6, 2026, at approximately 1640 hours, I, Deputy Trisha Hoffman (203), responded to [REDACTED] in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival, I observed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (victim/juvenile) standing in the roadway speaking with an unknown white female and an unknown white male who had called law enforcement. As [REDACTED BY AGENCY] approached me, I observed multiple welts on the front and back of both his right and left arms. I also observed that his right arm had visible bleeding.

I asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] what had occurred. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that his mother, Deanna Poindexter (arrestee), observed him on a camera taking out the trash and believed she saw him place something under his shirt. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that Deanna believed the item was a phone; however, he stated it was a speaker.

[REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that Deanna made him remove his clothing to prove he did not have a phone concealed on his person. He further stated that Deanna then grabbed an HDMI cable and struck him multiple times, causing the marks observed on his body. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] also stated that Deanna grabbed a speaker and threw it at him, striking him in the stomach.

While continuing to observe [REDACTED BY AGENCY], I noticed an additional welt on the back of his left calf. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that he became tired of his mother hitting him and ran from the residence. He stated that Deanna followed him down the road. I then placed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in the rear of my patrol vehicle and transported him to [REDACTED], Apartment [REDACTED], to make contact with Deanna.

Upon arrival at the residence, I made contact with Deanna Poindexter, who stated that she was out driving for Uber when she observed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] on camera taking out the trash and placing what appeared to be a cell phone under his shirt. Deanna stated that she returned home and began questioning [REDACTED BY AGENCY] about the item.

Deanna stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] has been getting into trouble at school for taking items that do not belong to him and that he was currently on punishment and not allowed to have a phone. She stated that they went into his bedroom, where she began yelling at him. Deanna further stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then ran out of the front door. She stated that she told him to come back but did not follow him.

Deanna later contradicted her initial statement by advising that she did, in fact, follow [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. She stated that she observed him on Redbird Road speaking with a male and female inside a vehicle. Deanna further stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] yelled that he had contacted law enforcement and was tired of her abusing him. Deanna stated that she then returned to her residence.

Deanna denied striking [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and stated that the injuries must have occurred prior to her arrival home, possibly during an altercation between [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and his brother, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (other/juvenile).

While inside the residence, I observed a camera in the living room and asked Deanna if it would provide video evidence. Deanna stated that the incident occurred in the bedroom and would not have been captured on the camera, only the verbal interaction.

I then spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who stated that he heard Deanna yelling at [REDACTED BY AGENCY] but did not witness any physical altercation. I asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] if he had struck [REDACTED BY AGENCY], to which he replied no. I then asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] if [REDACTED BY AGENCY] injuries had occurred prior to Deanna arriving home, and he also stated no.

I contacted DFCS, and [REDACTED] responded to the scene. CID Investigator Brittany Jones was also notified. All evidence and photographs were collected and turned over to CID.
