Warning: The following story contains information regarding alleged domestic violence/exploitation of disabled or elderly persons.
RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. – After responding to a Heckle Street residence regarding a suicidal person on June 3, 2024, a Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy found the 45-year-old disabled victim in deplorable conditions, lying on a feces and urine-covered mattress on a back bedroom floor. The deputy spoke with the victim’s husband, 33-year-old Dustin Famiglietti, who said his wife had threatened to commit suicide by walking into traffic or overdosing on medication.
Famiglietti stated that his wife suffered from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), MDD (Major Depressive Disorder), severe anxiety, and left-side paralysis. She also underwent a triple bypass and currently takes medication.
Upon entering the home, the deputy noted its dilapidated condition, with its falling ceiling, holes in the walls, and rotten, unsafe floorboards. It appeared to have no electricity or running water.
All the windows were boarded up, and the foul odor was so pungent that it was difficult to breathe. The deputy noted, “Even Mr. Famiglietti had to cover his nose upon entry.”
In a rear bedroom, the victim told the deputy she wanted to end her life because she was tired of living in these conditions. The deputy contacted EMS and the fire department to assist in moving and transporting the victim from the home to a nearby medical facility for evaluation.
Emergency medical personnel stated that they would do what they could to keep her from returning to the residence and its horrible conditions.
The victim’s sister approached the deputy and told him that Famiglietti had been mentally and verbally abusing his wife. She said he “takes her money,” spends it on himself, and “does not provide for her.”
She stated, “He does not assist her with her health care needs and leaves in the condition she was in.”
On June 4, 2024, Code Enforcement visited the residence to inspect the conditions and deemed the building condemned due to its dangerous and deplorable state.
Famiglietti was charged with exploiting a disabled person. This case is pending in court.
