On 10/29/2025, I, Deputy Crystal Battle (Unit 213), was dispatched to [200 BLOCK] Napa Drive in reference to a report of a suspicious person.

Upon arrival, I made contact with Lauren Troupe (suspect), who stated that when she arrived home, she believed someone had been roaming around her residence and requested the Sheriff’s Office to check the area. Troupe further stated that she believed something might be wrong with her dog, “Poncho,” but was unsure of the situation.

Deputies entered the residence to check the welfare of the animals. While inside, deputies observed the deceased body of a dog, later identified as “Poncho,” lying on the sofa. The dog’s head was located near the front door of the residence. Troupe was detained at that time and read her Miranda rights for further questioning.

Troupe stated that on 10/28/2025, at approximately 2000 hours, she returned home from Door Dashing and let both of her dogs, “Poncho” and “AK,” outside in the backyard. She advised that she brought them back inside around 2030 hours before leaving for work. Troupe stated that she returned home at approximately 0430 hours and remained in her vehicle until about 0600 hours when she went inside the residence to use the bathroom.

Troupe advised she did not notice any unusual odors or disturbances upon entering and went upstairs. She stated she found it unusual that Poncho did not greet her, as he normally did. When she returned downstairs, she observed Poncho lying on the sofa behind a pillow and only saw his back. Troupe stated that she did not fully look at Poncho to verify if he was deceased but assumed he was because he was not moving.

Troupe also advised that both her front and back doors were secure when she entered the residence. Troupe stated she then called her mother and subsequently contacted Blue Pearl Veterinary Clinic, who advised her to wait until 0900 hours to speak with a doctor regarding her deceased dog. Troupe later stated that after contacting her mother, she left the residence around 1100 hours to go to her boyfriend’s house for comfort and later returned before contacting the Sheriff’s Office.

Troupe advised that she has been struggling financially and only recently obtained the residence after a period of homelessness. She stated she would never intentionally harm her dogs. Troupe advised that “AK” was thin because she believed he had worms.

While on scene, deputies observed feces throughout multiple areas of the residence, one deceased and beheaded dog (“Poncho”), and one living dog (“AK”) that appeared malnourished. Upon examination of “Poncho’s” head and torso, it was found that his ears were missing leading deputies to believe that “AK” chewed “Poncho’s” head off and ate his ears. Animal Control was contacted and responded to the scene to take custody of both animals.

Follow-Up: On 10/29/2025, I made contact with Officer Dowdy of Animal Control, who stated that upon examination of the alive dog, “AK”, blood was observed on the left side of the body and snout. Officer Dowdy further advised that the surviving dog, “AK” (a Boxer), weighed approximately 45 pounds, whereas a healthy adult Boxer should weigh around 80 pounds, indicating significant malnourishment.

Records Clerk [REDACTED] was advised about the warrant taken out for the arrest of Troupe for the listed charge.
