On September 5, 2026, I, Deputy Zachary Messer, responded to [1800 BLOCK] Rhonda Dr in reference to a trouble with the subject.

Upon arrival, I made contact with the suspect, Maishia Hawes, who was irate and stated that she was jumped. While I was attempting to gather information, I told Hawes to go stand by her car. Hawes did not comply and was detained in the back of my car.

Upon talking to [VICTIM #1], she stated that Hawes was not supposed to be at the house and began to cause problems. [VICTIM #1] then stated that a physical altercation occurred involving [VICTIM #1] and Hawes. [VICTIM #1] then stated that once the fight was over, Hawes went back to her car and retrieved a handgun and began to fire at them.

I looked around in the road and noticed 3 live 9mm rounds lying in the roadway. I then checked by Hawes’ car and observed, on the passenger floorboard, a purple and black Taurus G2C(AEE461076). The handgun was removed from the vehicle, and the handgun had a double-feed malfunction, causing the firearm to be out of battery. I secured the handgun inside of my patrol car at this time.

I read Hawes her Miranda and she agreed to talk to me. I asked Hawes what happened, and she stated that she was invited over to eat and [VICTIM #2] just began to strike her during an argument. Hawes then stated that she was jumped by [VICTIM #1]. Hawes stated that she was kicked in the stomach and that she was punched in the face. Hawes did state that she went back to her car and retrieved a handgun after the altercation and shot one round into the air. Hawes stated that she felt like she was defending herself and that is why she shot.

I then spoke with the victim, [VICTIM #2], who stated that Hawes was not invited over to the house. [VICTIM #2] stated that Hawes would not leave, and when he attempted to get into his car to go to the store, Hawes got into the car with him. [VICTIM #2] stated that at this point Hawes began to strike him with a closed fist in his face while inside the car. [VICTIM #2] stated that to get Hawes to stop hitting him, he grabbed her in a headlock to prevent her from striking him anymore.

[VICTIM #2] stated that Hawes and [VICTIM #1] began to fight out in the road, and when the fight was over, Hawes went to her car and chased [VICTIM #2] with her firearm and fired at him. [VICTIM #2] was able to provide doorbell camera footage of the incident, and I observed Hawes go to her car, grab a handgun, and chase [VICTIM #2] in the road and fire one round with the handgun pointed in the direction [VICTIM #2] was running.

[VICTIM #2] was able to submit the video to Axon for evidence. Hawes stated that she was pregnant and that she needed medical attention for her stomach. Med unit 14 responded and checked Hawes out, and they stated that Hawes’s vitals appeared to be okay but recommended taking her to the hospital due to her being pregnant. I called records to run a criminal history on Hawes, and SGT Johnson (C777) confirmed that Hawes is a convicted felon. Hawes was then transported to Piedmont Hospital for further examination. Hawes was then cleared from the hospital and transported to the CBWDC. Investigator Miller obtained warrants for Hawes.

Hawes’s firearm was turned in as evidence at 400 Walton Way under property receipt number 558395.
