Warning: The following report describes alleged sexual violence.
RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested a 21-year-old man on October 23, 2024, after a woman reported that he broke into her home and raped her at gunpoint the day prior. The 25-year-old victim told the responding Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy that she had heard a loud bang at the front of the residence while she was lying down in her bedroom.
Hiding behind her room door, she observed an unknown man in her living room. When he noticed her, he approached her with a handgun and pointed it at her head.
He covered her mouth and ordered her to walk to the front door and shut it. She explained that she was terrified, so she did what he demanded.
He escorted her to the bedroom and forced her to commit sexual acts on him at gunpoint. After the attack, he “started cleaning up” and asked her to delete the security footage from the front door. She obeyed and deleted it; however, she was able to retain the footage of the suspect leaving her home.
The video displayed a man with dreadlocks wearing a brown jacket, a black undershirt, gray sweatpants, brown slide shoes, and a ski mask. The victim went to the Sexual Assault Response Center for evaluation.
Authorities detained Davion Laray Benjamin, transported him to the Richmond County Jail, and charged him with aggravated sodomy, felony first-degree home invasion, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during a crime, and rape. Benjamin received a bond of $7,900 for possessing a gun during the commission of a crime but no bond for the other charges.
This case is pending in court.
