On September 18, 2024 at approximately 2034hrs, I, Deputy Coppett, responded to [3000 BLOCK] Barcelona Way, Conyers, Georgia 30012 in response to a person shot.

Upon arriving on scene, there were several other deputies already there. It had been communicated over radio that the suspect, identified as Deshaun Elder, was already detained, with the firearm that was allegedly used in the crime retrieved. Deputy Murphy and Corporal Wilson were approved to make forced entry into the home while I held the front of the home at a low ready position. After entry was made into the home, Corporal Wilson and Deputy Murphy sent the complainant, the suspect’s sister identified as [WITNESS #1], outside. [WITNESS #1] was visibly upset and I consoled her in hopes of helping her calm down and be able to communicate what happened.

I began speaking with [WITNESS #1] by asking if there was anyone else in the home other than her, her brother, and her boyfriend, identified as [REDACTED], to which she stated no. [WITNESS #1] said that all three of them lived at this address.

I asked [WITNESS #1] to tell me what led up to the incident tonight. [WITNESS #1] said that earlier in the evening [REDACTED] went to the washing machine to check his and [WITNESS #1]’s laundry when he saw that Deshaun had taken the clothes out, but didn’t put them in the dryer. [REDACTED] questioned Deshaun asking “Why would you take the clothes out the washer and not put them in the dryer?” [WITNESS #1] stated that they got into an argument about it.

Later, [WITNESS #1] and [REDACTED] were in their bedroom and [REDACTED] got up to go to the bathroom. [WITNESS #1] stated she heard gunshots shortly after [REDACTED] left the room, then she saw [REDACTED] run back into the room and he had been shot in what seemed to be his leg, his side, and other places she was unsure of. [WITNESS #1] then called 9-1-1.

Deshaun was placed in custody with handcuffs behind his back, cuffs being double-locked. Deshaun was searched and placed in the rear passenger’s side of my patrol vehicle.

[REDACTED] was removed from the home and transported to Rockdale Piedmont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

[WITNESS #1] was transported by CID to CID to be interviewed and write a statement..

I transported Deshaun to CID to be interviewed. After completing the interview, Deshaun was transported to Rockdale County Jail and turned over to staff. Deshaun is being charged with Felony Murder.
