On Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 1540 hours, I, Officer HosenDove, responded to a welfare check of a 2-year-old child at Publix, 1591 Highway 20 North. Conyers Communications advised they received reports of two black females allowing a 2-year-old to run into traffic alone. Reports also claimed the child was grabbed by the arm and thrown into a vehicle before the females moved to the back of Publix. When I arrived, I saw the two females, later identified as Gabrielle Randolph and Nevaeh Covington, inside the vehicle eating while the 2-year-old, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], was outside alone, crying and pulling on the door handle.
When I spoke with Randolph and Covington, I asked why the child was outside alone, and they said he was crying and kicking Randolph’s son, [REDACTED]’s car seat, so they placed him outside while [REDACTED] slept. During our interaction, I detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. I also noticed several cars driving behind Publix, where [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was alone, increasing the risk of him being hit while outside the vehicle.
After calling for additional officers, I ordered all the occupants out of the vehicle and searched it due to the marijuana smell. During the search, I found 10 MDMA tablets in a gray plastic bag, which was wrapped in a brown paper towel in the center console between the driver and passenger seats. I also found a small bag of psilocybin mushroom beside the MDMA. Two small marijuana nuggets were in Covington’s left jacket pocket, and 10 white, oblong pills were in the seams of her blue jacket, which I identified as 500mg ibuprofen.
After locating these items, I detained Randolph and Covington. Covington was handcuffed, double-locked, and searched, while Randolph, carrying her 3-month-old son, [REDACTED], was not cuffed at that moment. Both were read their Miranda Rights and acknowledged understanding. When asked who owned the drugs, both denied ownership. Covington said the jacket belonged to her. The MDMA and psilocybin mushroom were collected as evidence, while the ibuprofen and marijuana were disposed of.
Talking about [REDACTED BY AGENCY] they said his mother, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] known to them as [REDACTED BY AGENCY] is a babysitting client of Randolph’s. She asked them to watch [REDACTED BY AGENCY] for about three weeks, with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] visiting occasionally and dropping off $200 before leaving. Her phone number was provided, [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. They described her as a stripper who hasn’t helped much with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] beyond the occasional $200.
Due to the reports and their actions, officers’ observations, and their statements, both Randolph and Covington were arrested on charges of possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance and reckless conduct. Randolph’s vehicle and her son’s custody were given to his grandfather, [REDACTED]. Both women were placed in patrol vehicle #142, after it was cleared of weapons and contraband, and transported to Rockdale County Jail, where they were booked on the listed charges.
CID Detective Brooks took custody of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and returned to the Conyers Police Department. DFACS was contacted and advised [REDACTED BY AGENCY] be returned to his mother. When she arrived, she was interviewed and stated she met Randolph through a mutual friend and asked her to babysit her son for three weeks so she could earn money and get back on her feet. She said she recently went out for her birthday, but checked on [REDACTED BY AGENCY] daily and sent him money. After the interview, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was returned to her, and both were allowed to leave.
[End of Narrative]
