On March 9, 2025, I initiated a call on the I20W exit 78 exit ramp.

While sitting in the far-left turn lane at the light, I noticed a blue challenger in the right left turn lane. When I looked over at the vehicle, I noticed a black male in the driver seat slouched over. Given the time being 0348 I had two initial thoughts. With my knowledge, training, and experience I suspect the male was having a medical emergency or was possibly under the influence of alcohol.

I requested for additional units to insure waking the male up was as safe as possible. Once my back up arrived, I exited my patrols unit and was approached by a female who was later identified as Andrea Jones.

Andrea began stating that she was driving the vehicle, and the male subject was placed in the driver seat by her. Andrea explained she moved the male due to her not having a valid license. Andrea continuously yelled that she was driving, and her husband didn’t do anything as I was trying to conduct my investigation. After several attempts to get Andrea to calm down to a talking point I instructed her over to Cpl Dunn and had him detain her and place her in the rear seat of his unit so she could not continue to hinder my investigation.

Once Andrea was secured in the back seat, I opened the passenger side door and placed the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition. The male subject still had not woken up. I went to the driver side of the vehicle and opened the door and the male woke up. The male who was identified as Sancez Jones appeared confused. I began to explain the Sancez that I had just found him asleep at the wheel and wanted to ensure he was okay. Sancez immediately became defensive and would not answer the question of who he was. After several attempts to figure out what was going on and Sancez not cooperating Sancez was detained and placed in Deputy Lovejoy’s unit.

I spoke with Andrea again who stated she was driving and pushed Sancez into the driver’s seat while he was asleep drunk. Andrea was asked if she did all that while the vehicle was in danger, and she stated she guessed so due to not knowing how to operate the vehicle properly.

I spoke with Sancez again and he continued to say he wasn’t driving and wouldn’t inform me of who was driving.

Sancez was cited with a DUI less safe citation due to him being located behind the wheel of an operable vehicle and being asleep at the wheel while having the smell of an alcoholic beverage on his breathe. Sancez was transported to the Rockdale County Jail by Deputy Lovejoy.

Andrea received a magistrate citation for disorderly conduct and was transported to the Rockdale County Jail by Deputy A. Anderson.
