On 03/16/2025 at approximately 1139 hours I responded in emergency mode with lights and sirens to 1713 Williamson Rd (Dollar General) in reference to a mental subject verbalizing homicidal ideations. In addition to homicidal ideations, dispatch notes stated the subject was also experiencing suicidal ideations.
Upon officer arrival, the subject was observed standing in the roadway near the intersection of Williamson Rd and South Pine Hill Rd. As officers were attempting to investigate the situation further, the subject was asked to move out of the roadway by Officer Wilson #4073 due to the level of traffic on the roadway. The subject refused to move out of the roadway. Myself and Officer Wilson #4073 gave multiple verbal clear commands to step out of the roadway. The subject, a large in stature man that appeared to weigh approximately 300lbs or more, was positioned in an aggressive fighting stance throwing his hands up shouting in a loud aggressive manner things such as: “and if I don’t” and “or what” and “go ahead and shoot me” in reference to moving out of the roadway.
Officer Wilson #4073 attempted to detain the subject by attempting to place him into handcuffs. Before the subject could be placed into handcuffs, the subject actively and physically resisted arrest by yanking his arms away from officers and screaming “don’t touch me”. During this time, the subject was fleeing further into the roadway toward oncoming traffic further endangering the lives of officers, the subject, and drivers on the roadway.
I unholstered my departmentally issued taser (Serial #T19E06554) and gave a loud verbal warning command of “Taser”. The subject continued to flee further into the roadway. I deployed two taser prongs in which one made contact with the subject, the other bounced off of him and hit the ground rendering the taser ineffective. The subject fell to the ground at which point myself and Officer Wilson #4073 began attempting to place the subject into handcuffs. The subject initially resisted handcuffing by refusing to give officers his hands, failing to comply with lawful commands, and flailing his arms and his body. The subject submitted once his hands were placed behind his back into proper position.
During this incident, I sustained two injuries such as: abrasions to my left hand and bruising/swelling of the right cheek.
I identified the subject as Christopher Daves and had him checked by EMS before placing him in the back of my patrol vehicle.
While Daves was checked by EMS on scene, [WITNESS #1] was on scene during the incident and was identified as Daves’ on again and off again girlfriend. [WITNESS #1] stated she was giving Daves a ride home. [WITNESS #1] stated the incident began when Daves became irritated when she was refusing to engage in a conversation with him. [WITNESS #1] stated Daves began “throwing a fit” and began throwing himself back and forth in the backseat of the car. [WITNESS #1] stated Daves jumped out of the vehicle and began screaming and crying.
Once EMS cleared Daves on scene, I transported him to Spalding County Jail where he was turned over to Jail Staff.
Warrants would be obtained for Christopher Daves for the following:
OCGA 16-11-39: DISORDERLY CONDUCT
OCGA 16-10-24(b): OBSTRUCTION (Two counts)
