On 07/11/2026, I, Investigator Stephens, was advised of a shooting at Raymond Head Park, located within the City of Griffin, where a subject had been shot in the back of the head and was possibly deceased (Case #26-004087).
Upon my arrival, I was informed of a separate shooting that had occurred inside the Heritage Apartments complex approximately two minutes after the initial shooting.
While assisting with Case #26-004087, I was advised that an individual known as “Duke” was a possible suspect in the shooting. “Duke” was later identified as Jamarion Goodman.
On 07/13/2026 at approximately 0022 hours, patrol officers were dispatched to [REDACTED] in reference to a separate shooting (Case #26-004103). Upon arrival, officers spoke with neighbors who identified the shooter as Jamarion Goodman, stating they lived next door to him and were able to positively identify him. Goodman was detained and later arrested in connection with that incident. Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant at Goodman’s residence, where they recovered a Glock 30 pistol chambered in .45 АСР.
Later on 07/13/2026, I was assigned to investigate the second shooting that occurred on 07/11/2026 at Heritage Apartments, as it was determined to be a separate incident from Case #26-004087.
During my review of the investigation, I observed that the only shell casings recovered from within Heritage Apartments were identified as .45 ACP. I also learned that several witnesses had placed “Duke” at the party on the night of the incident.
I reviewed Investigator Smith’s interview with [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that after the initial shooting related to Case #26-004087, she observed “Duke” running into Heritage Apartments along with everyone else. She stated he was with a group of males who were all armed. According to [REDACTED BY AGENCY], the group appeared excited and ready to begin shooting. She specifically described “Duke” as looking prepared to shoot and stated she could “see it all over him.” [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that she and her cousin ran into a nearby building for cover, and shortly afterward she heard additional gunfire. She also stated she observed “Duke” carrying a long gun.
Jamarion Goodman was transported to the Griffin Police Department for an interview. Goodman was advised of his Miranda rights and voluntarily completed and signed a Miranda waiver.
When asked about the shooting at Head Park, Goodman stated he had been standing in front of Heritage Apartments throughout the evening until gunfire erupted. He claimed he pushed his younger sister to the ground for protection before he and several females ran into Heritage Apartments. Goodman stated they later got into a vehicle and left the area. He denied any knowledge of what had occurred. I advised Goodman that witnesses had stated he possessed a firearm and was firing shots inside Heritage Apartments. Goodman denied possessing a firearm that evening and denied firing any weapon. I then showed him a photograph depicting him holding a Draco-style firearm. Goodman stated he had seen another male carrying the firearm at the party and had only asked to hold it briefly to take a photograph.
I advised Goodman that firearms recovered during investigations could be submitted to the GBI Crime Lab for forensic testing and compared to recovered shell casings. I specifically asked whether the Glock 30 chambered in .45 ACP, recovered from his residence during Case #26-004103, would match the .45 ACP shell casings recovered from Heritage Apartments. Goodman responded, “I don’t want to say that.” He then attempted to change the subject by stating that someone had died and there had been multiple shootouts with people shooting at “us.”
I advised Goodman that, based upon witness statements, photographs, and the evidence collected, investigators could potentially consider his actions as contributing to the events surrounding the homicide because his conduct caused panic and contributed to people fleeing the area, which could have affected the victim’s movements. I further advised him that if he admitted to being involved only in the Heritage Apartments shooting, it could distinguish his actions from the homicide investigation.
I told Goodman that I believed he had initially been standing in front of Heritage Apartments, ran inside after the first shooting, and then began firing his weapon. Goodman admitted that he did fire his weapon but stated there were multiple firearms being discharged at the same time and that he was not the only person shooting. I temporarily exited the interview room and returned with an overhead aerial photograph of Heritage Apartments obtained from Google Maps. I asked Goodman to identify where he had been standing when the initial shooting occurred, the route he took while running, and the location from which he fired his weapon. Goodman marked each location on the aerial photograph.
Goodman stated he fired because someone was shooting at him. He pointed to an area where he claimed an unknown male armed with a long gun was firing in his direction. He stated that after the shooting, he entered his vehicle and left the scene.
I then asked Goodman to indicate where he had concealed his firearm on his person. Goodman stated he had the handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants behind his right arm. He continued to deny firing the Draco-style firearm depicted in the photograph.
Following the interview, Goodman was returned to the Spalding County Jail.
I later responded to Heritage Apartments to examine the scene, as I had been unable to do so on the night ofthe incident. Lt. Trammell met me on scene and identified the locations where the shell casings attributed to Goodman’s firearm had been recovered. He also showed me the damage to Buildings [REDACTED] and [REDACTED].
Although the two buildings are adjacent to one another, the bullet strikes were spread too far apart to support Goodman’s claim that he was firing at a single individual attempting to shoot him. Based upon my observations of the bullet trajectories and the location of the recovered shell casings, the rounds appeared to have originated from the area where Goodman’s shell casings were located.
I attempted to contact the residents of the affected apartments. I first contacted [REDACTED] via her Ring doorbell camera at Apartment [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] stated she was not home at the time of the shooting. I then contacted [REDACTED] at Apartment [REDACTED], who also stated she was not home during the incident.
I next contacted [WITNESS #1] at Apartment [REDACTED]. [WITNESS #1] stated she was inside her apartment when it was struck by gunfire. She advised she was caring for her two children, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (DOB:[REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (DOB: [REDACTED BY AGENCY]), along with two additional juvenile children. [WITNESS #1] was unable to provide the identities of the other juveniles but gave me a telephone number [REDACTED BY AGENCY] for their mother. I attempted to contact the number multiple times without success. I later requested that [WITNESS #1] have the children’s mother contact me so I could obtain the juveniles’ information for reporting purposes; however, I have not yet been contacted.
I also spoke with neighbors outside Building [REDACTED] on the ground level, near the location where Goodman claimed someone had been shooting at him. The neighbors stated they only heard the initial volley of gunfire, immediately went inside for cover, and then heard the second volley of shots. They were unable to confirm anyone firing from the location identified by Goodman.
I searched for evidence supporting Goodman’s claim that someone had been shooting at him, including witness statements, damaged property, shell casings, or other physical evidence in the area he identified. I was unable to locate any evidence corroborating his statement.
I reviewed surveillance footage from the front gate of Heritage Apartments. The footage showed numerous people standing and socializing until the initial shots were fired. Hundreds of individuals immediately fled into Heritage Apartments seeking cover. Approximately two minutes later, after people had begun moving about again, a second shooting occurred, causing individuals to again flee and seek cover. The footage also showed people taking cover in the area Goodman claimed the shooter had been standing. As people ran into Heritage Apartments, I observed several individuals suddenly stop, turn around, and run away from the interior of the complex, consistent with the third volley of gunfire that Goodman admitted to firing.
Based upon witness statements, physical evidence, surveillance footage, and the lack of evidence supporting Goodman’s claim of self-defense, it appears Goodman became excited following the initial shooting and, during the subsequent gunfire, began firing his weapon indiscriminately. His gunfire struck two apartment buildings, causing damage to three separate apartments, one of which was occupied by five individuals, four of whom were juveniles.
Due to the lack of evidence supporting Goodman’s claim that he was returning fire in self-defense, warrants will be sought charging Goodman with Aggravated Assault, Drive-by Shooting, Cruelty to Children, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, False Statements, Criminal Damage to Property, and Reckless Conduct.
