[NARRATIVE #1 on February 25, 2025]

On 2/25/25 at 2228 hours I was dispatched to [900 BLOCK] E Broadway St in reference to a harassment. While in route to the location, Griffin Dispatcher advised a male subject wearing all black left the scene on foot towards Jackson Ln / E Solomon St. Griffin Dispatcher then stated the male suspect was possibly armed with 2 handguns and had possibly attempted to rape a female at [900 BLOCK] E Broadway St.

Once arriving in the area an immediate search was conducted where the suspect was last seen walking. I then discovered a male suspect matching the description walking West bound on E Solomon St in front of [800 BLOCK] E Solomon St. As I approached from behind in a well lit area, the suspect turned his upper body while looking in my direction indicating he was aware of my arrival but continued walking.

I exited my patrol vehicle and as doing so, I shouted “HEY MAN, LET ME TALK TO YOU”. The suspect then began walking in my direction and while I began walking towards him, the suspect momentarilly stood behind a metal telephone pole blocking my view of him. The suspect then came from behind the telephone pole and once doing so Ofc. C. Smith 3752 began shouting “TAKE YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR POCKETS!”. The suspect continued walking in my direction but immediately placed his left hand inside his waistband / left pocket area.

I withdrew my departmental issued Glock 19 9mm (S#: BHGL527) and pointed it at the suspect while giving verbal commands to show me his hands. The suspect then lifted his right hand but began digging with his left hand within his waistband. I continued shouting commands at the suspect to show me his hands and that is when I witnessed a black handle of a handgun within his grasp (magazine / butt of pistol grip visible in his left hand).

I immediately reacted quickly by tactically advancing towards the suspect while still pointing my firearm and once doing so the suspect quickly released the firearm. The suspect quickly raised both hands in the surrender position which allowed me and Ofc. C. Smith to placed him into handcuffs (double-lock mechanism applied).

The suspect was immediatly patted down for weapons and 2 firearms were located on the suspect. One firearm Glock 19 9mm (S#: BDCP608) with 30 round extended magazine (stamped with Henry County Police Department) was located within his waistband, along with a Taurus 40cal (S#:SLX85489) which was also located within his waistband.

After both firearms was cleared and made safe, it was discovered the Taurus 40cal not only had a spent casing inside the chamber (means it was recently fired and cartridge did not eject) but it was also discovered to be stolen out of Henry County Police Department.

The suspect was then identified as offender / Dewberry, Jmaryion. Ofc. C. Smith then read Dewberry his miranda rights and asked questions about the incident that took place at [900 BLOCK] E Broadway St (see supplemental). While handling the incident that took place at [800 BLOCK] E Solomon St with Dewberry, Ofc. R. Webster spoke with the individuals whom called 911 at [900 BLOCK] E Broadway St (see supplemental).

Once the investigation concluded involving the residents of [900 BLOCK] E Broadway St and discovering no crimes were in fact committed, I then proceeded to place Dewberry into custody for Aggravated Assault as well as possession of a stolen firearm.

Dewberry was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle which was checked the beginning of my shift for any weapons / drugs. Dewberry was transported to Spalding County Sheriff’s Office jail using the safest but most direct route possible. Once arriving at the SCSO jail, my departmental issued weapons was placed in the rear trunk of my patrol vehicle. Dewberry along with all required documentation was then turned over SCSO jail staff.

While Dewberry was being processed through SCSO, SCSO jailers along with SCSO supervision brought to my attention that Dewberry was in possession of a possible counterfit $20 dollar bill. The $20 dollar bill was recovered and placed into Griffin Police Departments Evidence locker to be sent off to the GBI for authencitity. All firearms along with other evidence was also placed into Griffin Police Departments Evidence Locker.
