On 08/13/2023 at approximately 2200 hours, I responded in a non emergency mode to the intersection of SR-3 S and Bowling Lane, which is located within the City of Griffin Spalding County Georgia, to a report of a hit and run. Upon arrival, I made contact with the complainant/victim later identified as [VICTIM #1].
I activated my body-worn camera and asked what happened, and Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she was stopped at the red light on SR-3 S and Bowling Lane, when a black in color Volkswagen Jetta rear ended her, and continued to travel South on SR-3. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she did have neck and back pain, but refused EMS to check her out. Ms. [VICTIM #1], then gave us a Tag that could possibly be the vehicle. I asked Ms. [VICTIM #1] if the driver was a male or female, and she stated it was a blonde white female.
Dispatch was able to find a Volkswagen Jetta matching the description, with the registered owner’s address at [1200 BLOCK] Everee Inn Road. Ofc. H. Milner, and Sgt. T. Hendrix made contact with a female at this time at said address.
The officers at Everee Inn Road, were able to determine that there was a Volkswagen at the residence, damage on the front end of the vehicle, and the engine still hot. The female later identified as Michelle Szymanski, advised Officers on scene that she was not involved in the accident, and that she just got out of the shower.
Ofc. Milner, advised Ms. Szymanski that the vehicle will be labeled at fault for the accident due to the evidence shown. Ms. Szymanski then stated to Ofc. Milner, that she was involved in the accident, but Ms. [VICTIM #1] backed into her. Ms. Szymanski was then arrested at this time for Hit and Run. I gave Ms. [VICTIM #1] Case Number 23-004925 that is attached to this report, as well as the accident report and information on how to retrieve it.
I arrived on [1200 BLOCK] Everee Inn Road at this time, and transported Ms. Szymanski to the Spalding County Jail, and was turned over to the jail staff. Ms. Szymanski was cited with Hit and Run, and Following too Closely.
