On 03/17/2026 at approximately 2014 Hours. I PTL Jackson 4084, responded in a non-emergency mode to N 16th St/ Ray St, which is located within the City of Griffin Spalding County Georgia, to a report of fight in progress involving a knife. My department issued worn body camera was activated.
When I arrived, I immediately saw three subject standing on the side of the road. Due to the nature of the call (fighting with a knife) I approached with my department issued Glock 47 (Serial #CFNS757) and pointed at all three subjects while giving loud and clear verbal commands to not move. As I approached a male subject (Richards, Shun) kept approaching me and was not listening to commands. I continued to keep my firearm on him while giving commands for him to get on the ground. At this point I also noticed a male sitting on a curb nearby with blood on the side of his neck and shirt. I then made Richards lay on the ground face first.
Once other units arrived on scene, I conducted a pat down of Richards for weapons. Once I was sure Richards was not in possession of a weapon, I had him sit on the curb where I gathered his information. Once I had gathered his information, I asked him to explain what had happed the reason law enforcement was called. Richards explained the other male bleeding (Harden, Christopher) had come up to him looking for a guy called “[REDACTED]” He then stated that Harden proceeded to asked him if he had change for $20 which Richards did and gave him change for it. He stated that once he gave him the money Harden pocketed it and proceeded to tell him to “get on away from me man” “you better get away from me man.” Richards stated that he responded to this by saying “you better give me my money” and then further explained that Harden didn’t want to give him his money (my understanding was that Harden pocketed the money Richards gave him that was meant to be change for the $20). He then explained that Harden then pulled a knife which another male identified as [WITNESS #1], intervened and told Harden that he was not going to leave with Christophers money. He further explained that Harden had tried to stab both him and [WITNESS #1] with the knife.
Once I gathered this information, I had Richards sit in the back of a patrol car while I went to speak with Harden. When I approached Harden, I did see a silver knife sitting beside him and he was bleeding from the left side of his head. Because he was detained, I read him his Miranda rights, which he stated he would answer questions. Once he agreed to answer questions, I asked him what had happened. Harden explained that he had walked up to Richards and asked for change. He stated that after this, Richards snapped at him, and both [WITNESS #1] and Richards jumped him and hit him with a stick. He then explained that the dispute had actually been over an agreement to exchange $20 and that it was all a misunderstanding. I then asked Harden if he had pulled a knife, to which he said, ‘No, I had my knife because he gave him the knife’ (Harden was referring to Richards giving [WITNESS #1] the knife). He stated that the handoff of the knives occurred before Richards hit him with a stick. A stick was found nearby that was used by Richards to hit Harden (a green stick, possibly a handle for an axe).
I then left Harden with other officers and went to speak with [WITNESS #1] about the incident. [WITNESS #1] was also in custody at the time, so he was advised of his Miranda rights. [WITNESS #1] agreed to speak with me and answer questions about the incident. [WITNESS #1] again explained that the whole dispute had been over some exchange in money and that Richards had asked him to help get his money back from Harden. [WITNESS #1] then explained that he stepped in between both Harden and [RICHARDS], who were both armed with knives. He explained that he was able to get the knife from Richards (red knife) but was not able to get the knife from Harden ([WITNESS #1] was actively trying to stop the dispute).
With all this information, 1 released [WITNESS #1] from custody and placed Richards under arrest for the offense of aggravated assault (for pulling the knife) and battery (for hitting Harden with the stick). A search incident to arrest was conducted on Christopher’s belongings, where a bottle of medication without a label was found. A search on the pill identifier app revealed it to be aripiprazole, for which I will also be charging Richards for not having it in its original container, Harden was released to the care of EMS due to his injuries, and I will be seeking charges for aggravated assault as well for him pulling a knife on Richards.
Both knives, the stick, and the medication were all photographed and placed into evidence once I transported Richards to Spalding County Jail.
I returned to service.
