On January 16, 2026 at 1350 hours, I responded to Spalding Regional Hospital in reference to a disorderly conduct incident involving a discharged patient refusing to leave the premises.
Upon arrival, contact was made with Investigator C. Smith (#3752); of whom, was working an off-duty detail at the hospital. The officer advised me that a homeless individual, later identified as Stanford Smith, had been discharged from the emergency department and refused to vacate the facility. The investigator further stated that Stanford Smith was causing a disturbance within the hospital refusing instructions from staff and Investigator Smith to exit.
Contact was then made with Stanford Smith, who was still positioned inside the Emergency Room. Stanford Smith was advised multiple times by officers that he was required to leave the premises due to being discharged and no longer having legitimate business inside the facility. Stanford Smith refused to comply with verbal commands and continued to argue with staff and officers, disrupting normal hospital operations and the public within the area.
Due to Stanford Smith continued refusal to leave after lawful commands were issued, and based on his disorderly behavior, Stanford Smith was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers. Stanford Smith was placed in handcuffs behind his back, which were double-locked for security and to prevent injury. A search of Stanford Smith was conducted with no contraband or weapons found.
Stanford Smith was escorted to the rear of my marked patrol vehicle and secured for transport. Stanford Smith was then transported to the Spalding County Jail using the most direct route available. Upon arrival at the jail, my service weapon was secured in accordance with intake procedures. Stanford Smith was turned over to intake deputies without further incident.
Warrants are to be obtained for the above listed charges.
