On 07/01/2026 at approximately 1006 hours, I responded in non-emergency mode to 1435 Hwy 16 W (Home Depot) regarding a shoplifter.
Upon arrival, I was met by Loss Prevention [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that he observed a male subject take a pair of Milwaukee high steel carbon blades. The male subject then walked outside near the garden, took the blades out of the package, and placed them in his front-right pocket. [WITNESS #1] stated that the male subject then went back inside to get another pair of blades but was unable to retrieve them from the pack, so he put them back. [WITNESS #1] stated that once the male subject passed all points of sale, [WITNESS #1] identified himself as LP and directed him to the LP office in the back of the store to await law enforcement.
[WITNESS #1] was given a case number with details on how to obtain a copy of his report.
The male subject was identified as DONALD SULLIVAN. Sullivan stated that he did conceal the items listed above.
Sullivan was handcuffed behind his back, double locked for security, and checked for fit.
Sullivan’s wife (SUSAN SULLIVAN) approached the back of the LP office to see what was going on with her husband. Due to Susan being loud and irate (yelling, waving her hands, stating her husband didn’t do anything and that he has a disability), she was asked to stand outside the office.
As Sgt. Hurst and I began to escort Sullivan to the patrol vehicle. Susan began charging at us, stating her husband didn’t do anything and he shouldn’t be in handcuffs. Susan was then placed in handcuffs by Ofc. V. Harp and I and checked for fit.
Susan was transported in the most direct route to the Spalding County Jail by Ofc. V. Harp.
Sullivan was then placed in the backseat of my patrol vehicle and transported in the most direct route to the Spalding County Jail. At the jail, my service weapon was secured in my locked vehicle, and Sullivan was escorted inside, where he was turned over to Intake Deputies.
My patrol vehicle was checked for contraband/weapons before and after Sullivan had been inside.
Warrants will be obtained for Sullivan for Theft by Shoplifting. Warrants will also be obtained for Susan for Disorderly Conduct and obstruction of officers.
