On September 18, 2025, dispatch received a call from fire units on Ellis Rd, advising that a puppy was brought to the station because it had been abandoned by a customer at America’s Best Value Inn and Suites.

When I arrived, I met with animal control to gather information regarding the call. [REDACTED], the animal control unit, advised that [WITNESS #1], hotel staff, informed him that Timasha Sherman, a customer, checked out at 11:00 a.m., this date, leaving a black and brown puppy on the property.

Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated that when she went to the second floor to clean the rooms, the puppy was roaming around. She stated that when she opened the door for room [REDACTED], the puppy ran into the room and barked at her when she tried to go inside. Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated that when she entered the room, she noticed food on the floor, urine stains, and what looked like a pallet made with the pillow cases for the puppy.

Video surveillance shows the puppy leaving and entering room [REDACTED], the room booked by Ms. Sherman a few days prior. The animal control unit contacted Ms. Sherman via phone, and she stated that the dog did not belong to her. Ms. Sherman stated that the puppy followed her to the room one day. Video surveillance was obtained and downloaded to the police share drive under this case number.

The puppy was taken away from the scene by animal control. The animal control unit took the puppy to South Side Animal Hospital, and it was tested before being booked at the animal shelter. The unit advised that the puppy tested positive for Parvovirus (PAR) and had to be put down.

A warrant has been obtained for Ms. Shermin for Abandonment of Domesticated Animal (4-11-15.1).
