SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. – A woman was sentenced to 70 days in jail after she was convicted of falsely reporting a crime, court records show.

Rubie Lee Anderson was booked May 10, 2026, on a charge of false report of a crime, according to court records. The case stemmed from a May 1 incident in which a Griffin police officer responded to a report of an assault with an EMS response on Meriwether Street.

According to the officer’s narrative, the officer arrived to find a woman identified as Anderson lying on her back, with a bloody left elbow and foot, while another woman tended to her. A black bag of alcoholic beverages was thrown around on the ground nearby, along with two sandals and a dollar bill.

Anderson gave shifting accounts, the narrative states. She first said a man attacked her and threw her to the ground before leaving in a green Ford truck. She then said a man she named had thrown her belongings from his vehicle, “grabbed her and forcefully pulled her out,” causing her to fall. She told the officer the man stood over her and “made a substantial movement with his leg to kick her.” Emergency crews lifted her onto a stretcher and took her to Spalding Regional Hospital.

Using Flock camera data, another officer identified a green Ford Ranger that had been in the area, the narrative states. The officer followed up with the truck’s owner, who lives nearby and said he had agreed to drive Anderson to a wig shop for payment. When she would not pay, he said, he told her to get out and helped remove her belongings. He said she “fell out of the truck at her own will” and that he never touched her.

The officer reviewed surveillance footage from a Sunoco on Meriwether Street. According to the narrative, the video showed Anderson “falling into frame hitting the ground on her back.” The footage did not show the man approach Anderson or attempt to hit or help her up, the narrative states.

At the hospital, the officer reported finding Anderson “lying in an emergency room actively arguing with hospital staff.” She was described as “highly intoxicated” and unable to complete a statement form, and hospital staff said she had refused to let them check her vitals. “Due to the obvious level of intoxication and conflicting stories, no action has been taken against either party at this time,” the officer wrote, and both were given case number cards.

Prosecutors filed a formal accusation, a charging document that begins a criminal case in state court, on June 10, charging Anderson with one count of false report of a crime. Attorney Harry J. Charles of The Jewkes Firm, LLC entered his appearance for Anderson on July 14 and filed a demand for discovery, court records show.

Anderson was sentenced Sept. 2 to serve 70 days in jail, the docket shows. The sentence came the same day she appeared for a jail arraignment, a hearing held at the jail for defendants in custody.
