On August 22, 2022 I received a notification to law enforcement agency of abuse/neglect report from DFACS. It stated that on August 20, 2022 Courtney Atkins gave birth to a [REDACTED BY AGENCY] infant at Memorial Meadows Health in Vidalia. The report indicated that the mother, Courtney Atkins, tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamines at the time she gave birth to the child.

I called to follow up on this report and spoke to staff at the Memorial Meadows Health Women’s Pavilion. I inquired if an in house drug screen was performed on the infant, and they advised there was. I was advised that the infant tested positive for methamphetamine. I responded to the hospital’s women’s pavilion, and I was able to obtain a copy of the positive test results. Further results are pending for the infant due to them being sent off for more tests.

I was advised that [REDACTED] was the responding DFACS case worker, and she had already made a visit to the hospital. I made contact with Ms. [REDACTED] at a later time, and she advised that the infant would be staying at the hospital until placement was found due to the infant not being able to leave with the mother because of the test results. This case is under investigation and warrants will follow this report for the mother, Courtney Atkins.
