[NARRATIVE #1 on March 29, 2026]

On 03/29/2026 at approximately 2319 hours, I, Officer Haley, responded to the police department located at 208 N Main St in reference to an assault that allegedly took place at 2209 N Main St, the Kings Inn. Upon arrival, I met with the complainant, [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that the incident occurred at the Kings Inn in Room [REDACTED]. She advised the events began on 03/28/2026, with the assault taking place shortly after midnight on 03/29/2026.

[VICTIM #1] explained that she had rented the hotel room to get some peace and quiet due to multiple family members being at her residence, as she had to work the following day. She stated she initially arrived at the room with her cousin, who stayed for approximately one hour before leaving. [VICTIM #1] advised her cousin was not present during the assault.

[VICTIM #1] stated that around midnight, she invited an old boyfriend, identified as Terry Hamby, to come to the room. She said they spent some time talking before she fell asleep. [VICTIM #1] reported that she woke up at approximately 0200 hours and observed Hamby injecting drugs with a needle. [VICTIM #1] described the drugs as a white substance but does not know exactly what it was. [VICTIM #1] continued, stating that Hamby then fell and landed on top of the needle shortly after injecting the substance. [VICTIM #1] said she got out of bed to check on him and advised him she was going to call 911.

At that point, [VICTIM #1] stated Hamby quickly stood up, knocked her phone out of her hand, and grabbed her by the throat, restricting her airway while telling her she was not calling anyone. [VICTIM #1] reported that a physical altercation ensued in attempt to defend herself. During which Hamby allegedly threw her into the television and then into a bathroom mirror. She stated she eventually told Hamby to calm down and that she would not call anyone.

[VICTIM #1] advised Hamby then de-escalated, and approximately ten minutes later passed out on the bed, placing her phone underneath him so she could not access it without waking him. [VICTIM #1] stated she allowed Hamby to sleep and that later that day, during daylight hours, Hamby gave her a ride to work. She advised she does wish to pursue charges.

While speaking with [VICTIM #1], I observed bruising and red marks on the front and sides of her neck consistent with her statement of being grabbed by the throat. I also observed scratch marks on both of her arms. Photographs of these injuries were taken and are attached to this report.

[VICTIM #1] described Hamby as operating a silver/bluish van and stated he was wearing a hat, black shirt, black shorts, and had numerous tattoos at the time of the assault. She also stated he was carrying a backpack. [VICTIM #1] provided a prior mugshot of Hamby from the Walker County Detention Center. I utilized my in-car computer to locate Hamby’s information and confirmed through GCIC/NCIC that the license photo matched the individual in the mugshot. In both images, Hamby displayed a distinct black horizontal tattoo on the left side of his neck.

I then responded to the Kings Inn to further investigate. Upon speaking with the front desk clerk, I was granted access to surveillance footage. At approximately 2321 hours, I observed [VICTIM #1] and her cousin enter Room [REDACTED]. At approximately 0012 hours, I observed a white male matching Hamby’s description paying for [VICTIM #1] room using a credit card. The individual displayed the same neck tattoo and was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and a brown hat. The individual also matched the photos of Hamby as provided by [VICTIM #1], and the license picture. The clerk confirmed that Hamby provided the credit card used for the room.

Further review of the footage showed that at approximately 0131 hours, a silver/bluish minivan pulled near Room [REDACTED]. A white male approached Room [REDACTED] wearing a black shirt, black shorts, a brown hat, and a backpack, and appeared to be covered in tattoos. This individual approached the door, knocked, and was let inside shortly thereafter. The individual’s clothing and appearance, including facial hair and hat, and tattoos [VICTIM #1] described, matched Hamby. [VICTIM #1] later stated Hamby left and changed clothes prior to arriving at the room at 0131.

I then contacted Walker County Dispatch to determine if Hamby had prior traffic stops and associated vehicle information. Dispatch advised that Hamby had been stopped in January 2026 operating a blue 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. This vehicle description is consistent with the van observed in the surveillance footage. On Hamby’s GCIC/NCIC return, there is Temporary Protective Order information, which also states that Hamby drives a blue Chrysler Town and Country. Vehicle information is attached.

Based on [VICTIM #1] detailed statement, the physical evidence of injury observed, the surveillance footage placing Hamby at the scene before and during the time of the incident, and vehicle information corroborating Hamby’s presence, probable cause exists to believe that Terry Hamby committed the offense of Aggravated Assault by intentionally causing strangulation, impeding the normal breathing of [VICTIM #1] by applying pressure to her throat, as well as Battery for leaving superficial injuries on her arms from the result of a struggle caused by Hamby. A warrant for Aggravated Assault and Battery will be applied for on Terry Hamby.

Witness statement attached.

[NARRATIVE #2 on March 30, 2026]

On 03/30/2026 at 1011 hours I, Cpl. Phillips was in the area of 1st Street and the Skate Park in LaFayette in reference to observing listed Suspect vehicle and driver with a Felony and Misdemeanor warrant through the LaFayette Police Department. I observed the listed Suspect Vehicle (2010 Chrysler Town and Country blue in color) and listed Offender (Terry Hamby) sitting in the driver seat in the parking lot of the walking track. The suspect vehicle then began to pull out of the parking lot to leave. I then followed the vehicle north on 1st Street until the warrant was confirmed and in hand.

Once the Warrants (W26030133 Felony Aggravated Assault and W2603134 Misdemeanor Battery FVA) were confirmed by Sgt. Hunt and were in hand, I initiated a Felony traffic stop on listed suspect vehicle and final stop being the residence of [300 BLOCK] Park Street in LaFayette. Terry was commanded to step out and back towards me and once at the rear of my patrol vehicle Terry was placed in my handcuffs which were checked for fit and double locked.

Terry was searched incident to arrest for contraband or weapons, and none were found. Terry was also informed of the reason for the stop and the outstanding warrants for his arrest. Terry was then placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle to be transported to the Walker County Jail. Terry stated he would like to leave his vehicle at [300 BLOCK] Park Street.

I then spoke with listed Other [REDACTED] who was in the passenger side of the vehicle. [REDACTED] stated that her and Terry are just good friends. [REDACTED] who from prior knowledge and investigations was known to live at [300 BLOCK] Park Street and was asked if the vehicle could stay on the property. [REDACTED] stated the vehicle was okay to stay on the property of [300 BLOCK] Park Street per Terry’s request. The vehicle was then locked and secured and the keys for the vehicle were placed with Terry’s property to go with him to the Jail.

Once at the Jail Terry was removed from the rear of my patrol vehicle and was turned over to the Detention Personnel. Terry was then informed and read his arrest warrants while at the Jail.
