EDITED ADV POSS GOA
Upon my arrival I first made contact with Ms. [VICTIM #1] at the front door. Upon initially speaking with her I could immediately tell she was upset due to her shaking and holding back tears while I was speaking to her. She informed me that she got into an argument with her friend Anthony McCord [REDACTED], who had just walked into the kitchen bathroom. He was ordered out of the bathroom and told to step outside to speak with the other officers on scene to which he did.
I then began speaking with [VICTIM #1] in her living room. [VICTIM #1] was still visibly upset at this time. The following is what she told me. [VICTIM #1]’s sister/the complainant, Ms. [WITNESS #1] called 911 due to her hearing her sister [VICTIM #1] screaming upstairs. I asked [VICTIM #1] why she was screaming to which she said “because he was choking me”. I asked [VICTIM #1] why he was choking her. She stated that he was mad about some other man that she used to date a long time ago. When asked about her relationship with Anthony, [VICTIM #1] stated that he was her ex-boyfriend and that they dated for roughly one and a half years back in 2021-2022.
Anthony was currently staying at the residence to help [VICTIM #1] take care of her bedridden sister, [WITNESS #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that Anthony had been harassing her ever since she got home from work on this date. Once [VICTIM #1] was upstairs, Anthony went upstairs and got into an argument with [VICTIM #1] which led to him putting his hands on her neck. When asked to be more specific she stated that Anthony put both of his hands on her neck and began squeezing on her adams apple. She stated that she thought “this is gonna be the end”. (Aggravated Assault by Strangulation).
As [VICTIM #1] was screaming up stairs [WITNESS #1] began to call the police. Upon [VICTIM #1] screaming and hearing that [WITNESS #1] was calling the police, Anthony let go and walked back down stairs. As he was doing so [VICTIM #1] retrieved a firearm and retreated back into another room upstairs to protect herself. [VICTIM #1] then informed me that the glasses that she was originally wearing during the physical confrontation were broken. They were black framed Versace glasses worth roughly $350.00 (Criminal Trespass).
I also asked [VICTIM #1] if he threatened her while he was choking her to which she said that she was unsure because she was being choked at the time. [VICTIM #1] then showed me the manner in which she was choked. According to her, Anthony was behind her with one hand on the front of her neck and the other on the back of her neck. She stated that as this occurred that her glasses smashed into her face (causing the damage and smudge to the glasses).
I went upstairs and retrieved the glasses which were laying on her bed. One of the arms was clearly bent down and their was a large smudge of eye shadow on one of the lenses. The damaged glasses and eye shadow stain were clues to me that showed that [VICTIM #1] was in a physical confrontation which led to her head being manipulated due to her being choked.
I initially looked at her neck to which she said it was sore. Upon looking at it I could not initially see any redness or bruises however I did see one small bump with a small scratch on top. I asked [VICTIM #1] if that was an old mark to which she said that she was unfamiliar with the mark. I also showed [VICTIM #1] a photo of multiple items across the floor in her room and asked her if that was normal to which she said no. She stated all of those items fell on the floor during the fight.
While speaking with [VICTIM #1] other officers spoke with the complaint/sister, [WITNESS #1]. The following is what occurred according to her. [WITNESS #1] was laying in her bed downstairs due to her being bedridden. She then heard a loud scream and she began yelling that she was going to call the police. Both Anthony and [VICTIM #1] came down stairs and Anthony said that they were not doing anything. Anthony and [VICTIM #1] then went back upstairs. [WITNESS #1] then heard [VICTIM #1] screaming so loud that she had to call 911. She stated that it sounded like he was killing her.
Once I finished speaking to [VICTIM #1] I went outside to speak with Anthony. I met Anthony on the front porch and asked him what happened that caused the police to be called. Anthony informed me that he got into an argument with [VICTIM #1] about paying for cleaners to clean the residence. He stated that he cleaned the residence for free however [VICTIM #1]’s other sister still gave her $500.00 to have cleaners clean the residence. According to Anthony this was the reason for the argument and that it was only verbal in nature.
When asked where the argument occurred he stated upstairs in the bedroom. Anthony stated that it never became physical. Anthony also informed me that he had been living at this residence for the last month (Family Violence Factor) because he was helping with [WITNESS #1]. The fact that he had been living at the residence for the last month was also confirmed by [WITNESS #1].
Due to the fact that all three subjects stated that a loud dispute occurred upstairs, [VICTIM #1]’s physical mannerisms (shaking and holding back tears) the small bump and scratch on her neck and the damaged glasses with eye shadow on the lenses, Probable cause was developed and Anthony was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault by Strangulation. Anthony was handcuffed in the back. The cuffs were checked for fit and double locked. He was then handed over to other officers, searched incident to arrest and placed in the backseat of my vehicle, (back seat camera running).
I went back inside to speak with [VICTIM #1] again which is when she showed me a text message that she received from an unnamed phone number. The text was sent at 9:25pm just minutes before 911 was called. The text stated “I will hurt you please take me home”. I went back to my patrol vehicle and called the number. Upon doing so Anthony’s phone began ringing. (Terroristic Threats).
[VICTIM #1] was provided with a case card and a project renewal pamphlet. Her glasses were also taken by me to be put into evidence. I then transported Anthony to the WCSO and handed him over to the jail staff without incident. A victim notification form was completed at the jail. After leaving the jail I checked my backseat for any loose items or contraband, none of which was found.
I then conducted a follow up back at the residence and advised [VICTIM #1] on how to retrieve her glasses after the case was concluded. I also took more photos of her neck to include the small scratch which we both looked at in the mirror. I also informed her to call back in the event her neck begins to bruise over the next few days and have it documented.
I also spoke with [WITNESS #1] and confirmed that Anthony had been living at the residence for roughly a month. The entire investigation to include both follow ups were recorded on my department issued body camera. [VICTIM #1]’s glasses have also been entered into evidence and all relevant photos to include the threatening text message and the neck photos have been attached to this report.
