On 07/31/26 at 2253 hours, I, Officer Devin Harper #355, was dispatched to [400 BLOCK] Baron Drive, Apt. [REDACTED], in reference to a dispute involving a shirtless male, later identified as Cameron Thomas, who was causing a disturbance in the neighborhood.
Upon my arrival, I observed numerous individuals outside the residence and a shirtless male walking away on the right side of the roadway. I activated my emergency lights before exiting my patrol vehicle. As I exited, a neighbor identified the male as Cameron Thomas. Cameron immediately fled on foot around the corner onto Classic Trail. I pursued him on foot and briefly lost sight of him before observing him run through the backyard of a nearby residence. I regained visual contact as Cameron ran through the rear door of a residence. Due to the active foot pursuit, I entered the residence in hot pursuit. Upon entering, I announced my presence and repeatedly ordered Cameron to come out.
An elderly female and an adult male came to the back door of the residence. The elderly female stated that I had kicked open the rear door. I asked both occupants where Cameron had gone. They initially did not respond. I checked both sides of the residence before returning to question them again. The adult male advised Cameron had run through the residence while he was in his bedroom, and the elderly female stated Cameron had exited through the front door. I maintained a position where I could observe both the front and rear of the residence until additional officers arrived.
Shortly afterward, Corporal Temples located Cameron behind a residence near the entrance to Custom Way. I responded to that location, where Cameron was lying face down on the ground. Cameron was taken into custody, handcuffed, and searched incident to arrest by Corporal Temples and me. I escorted Cameron to a patrol vehicle and conducted an additional search. Officer Herron #358 located a red cellular phone in the grass near where Cameron had been apprehended. Cameron was asked twice if the phone belonged to him but did not respond.
I then returned to [400 BLOCK] Baron Drive to speak with the complainants, identified as [WITNESS #1], [WITNESS #2], and their guests. They advised Cameron frequently visited the residence to socialize while they drank alcohol but had never seen him behave in this manner. They believed he was either heavily intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
[WITNESS #1] advised Cameron became verbally aggressive, calling him derogatory names including “bit*h” and “nig*a.” [WITNESS #1] told Cameron to leave, and Cameron complied. A short time later, Cameron called [WITNESS #1] asking if he could return. [WITNESS #1] agreed, provided Cameron did not cause any further problems. Upon returning, Cameron immediately resumed yelling, cursing, and calling everyone derogatory names, prompting [WITNESS #1] to call 911. [WITNESS #1] also stated Cameron repeatedly called [WITNESS #2] a “bit*h.”
[WITNESS #2] advised Cameron called her a “bit*h” and a “cracker” while creating a disturbance in the front yard of the residence.
After speaking with the complainants, I was advised by fellow officers that Cameron admitted he fled from me because he believed he had an outstanding warrant related to a prior incident involving damage to his girlfriend’s windows.
Based on the investigation, Cameron Thomas was charged with two counts of Disorderly Conduct (O.C.G.A. § 16-11-39) and one count of Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer (O.C.G.A. 16-10-24) for fleeing on foot after I attempted to detain him. The homeowner of the residence Cameron ran through declined to pursue charges for his entry into the residence.
Cameron Thomas was transported to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Jail without incident. The rear seat of the patrol vehicle was checked before and after transport.
