On March 27th, 2025 at approximately 1220 hours A-Shift officers responded to 206 South Hammond Drive (Life Church) in reference to a dispute. The caller advised that the black male that was disputing with him had left the location in a white Infiniti, Georgia tag [REDACTED], towards East Church Street. A GCIC/NCIC inquiry of the vehicle returned to a white 2002 Infiniti Q45, registered to a Fredrick Brown. GCIC/NCIC revealed that Fredrick had three warrants issued for his arrest (2 felony, 1 misdemeanor).
At approximately 1257 hours I was patrolling the Tall Oaks Subdivision in search of the Infiniti and Fredrick. As I was traveling on Tall Oaks West I observed a white Infiniti occupied by a black male, matching Fredrick’s driver’s license. I activated my dash camera and body camera and made contact with Fredrick. Due to Fredrick being 6’4″ and weighing 2251bs I decided to try and wait to take Fredrick into custody until another officer arrived to assist me. I asked Fredrick to step out of the vehicle and explained to him that we had received a phone call from the Life Church regarding a verbal dispute. I explained to Fredrick that staff stated he was causing a scene. Fredrick told me that was not true. I asked Fredrick why he was at the church and he told me that the church usually gives away free food. Fredrick was short with his answers. After a few minutes of speaking with Fredrick another unit had not yet arrived and which point I told Fredrick that he had a warrant for his arrest. Fredrick was told to turn around and place his hands behind his back. As I grabbed onto Fredrick’s right wrist he immediately became hostile asking what he was being arrested for, while tensing his arms up. I explained to Fredrick that he had warrants for his arrest. I told Fredrick again to turn around and place his hands behind his back. Fredrick turned around but continued to tense his arms so that I could not place them behind his back.
At that time, Fredrick attempted to flee, back towards a residence. I grabbed a hold of Fredrick and attempted a leg sweep to take him to the ground and effect the arrest but due to Fredrick’s height and weight advantage I was unable to get him on the ground. Fredrick turned around and grabbed onto my ballistic vest, pushing me backwards and slamming me into the front quarter panel of his vehicle, while stating “don’t do that to me now, don’t do me like that”. Fredrick was able to overpower me temporarily but was able to finally push him off of me. Fredrick began walking away from me, and an unknown female began guarding Fredrick. She was given commands to move out of the way, at which point an unidentified black male grabbed the female and moved her out of the way. Due to Fredrick’s combativeness I deployed a 3 second burst of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray to Fredrick’s face, neck and back of his head, while giving him verbal commands to get on the ground. Fredrick walked to the back of his vehicle and got on his hands and knees. Fredrick was told again to get on the ground and place his hands behind his back. Fredrick refused to comply and stood up and began walking towards the roadway. At that time I deployed another two second burst of 0.C. spray. Fredrick then laid on his stomach but did not put his hands behind his back. Fredrick was given verbal commands for him to put his hands behind his back multiple times but refused to comply. Fredrick attempted to get up, at which point I pushed him, causing him to fall over and strike the rear tire of his vehicle. I grabbed Fredrick’s left wrist and placed him into handcuffs.
Fredrick was walked to the front of my patrol vehicle so that he could be searched incident to arrest. Fredrick was bent over at the waist and leaned over the car while he was being searched. While searching Fredrick he attempted to stand straight up on two separate occasions, at which point he was pushed back down in order to safely complete a search of his person. Fredrick was placed in the rear of Ofc. Gibbs patrol vehicle and transported to the Monroe Police Department. Once at the Monroe Police Department Fredrick was seen by Walton EMS personnel and decontaminated. Fredrick was fingerprinted and transported to the Walton County Jail by Ofc. Smith.
Once this altercation was over and the adrenaline rush had ceased I felt pain in my lower back, which was caused by Fredrick grabbing me and slamming me into his vehicle. I notified Lt. Harris of my injury and he completed the necessary documents. I was instructed to go to Urgent Care where I was seen by a doctor and placed on light duty.
Warrants will be secured for simple battery on a law enforcement officer and felony willful obstruction of law enforcement.
