On June 13th 2026, I Officer Robertson #371 conducted a traffic stop on a Grey Toyota Camry for cancelled registration.
While traveling down Hwy 78 Wb passing Troy Smith, I was alerted to a flock hit of a suspect vehicle from a elder abuse case I handled a week prior. I stood by at Troy Smith waiting for the vehicle and alerted Sergeant Robertson #328 about the vehicle and its direction of travel. While sitting watching the east bound lane, I observed a Grey Toyota Camry pass me heading Eastbound towards the city limits. The Toyota was missing multiple hub caps and matched the vehicle description of the suspect vehicle. I was clearly able to see the driver and positively identified him as Gary Durden who was the suspect in the elder abuse case.
I followed the vehicle into the city notifying Sergeant Robertson of its updated position so he could catch up and attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle turned off onto W Spring St and attempted to pull into the tractor supply parking lot. At that time I activated my emergency lights and siren and conducted a traffic stop to prevent Gary from fleeing. Gary pulled off into the turn lane and I was able to make contact with him at the drivers window where he did identify himself as Gary Durden.
I ran Gary through Walton County Dispatch who confirmed the warrant was valid. Sergeant Robertson and Officer Doan arrived on scene and Gary was asked to step out of the car where he was then placed in handcuffs behind his back which were double locked and checked for fit. He was then searched incident to lawful arrest and turned over to Officer Doan for transportation. The vehicle was turned over to a licensed driver who took it from the scene.
