On October 3, 2025 at approximately 1533 hours I, Sergeant Silverberg, responded to the area of Lacy Street and Pine Park Street in reference to a suspicious person. The complainant advised that a black male wearing a black or gray shirt, black bookbag, and camo shorts had jumped in front of her vehicle in what she stated was an attempt to get hit.

Upon my arrival to the area I observed two black males riding bicycles and a black male wearing a black shirt, black book bag, and gray shorts traveling on Pine Park Street towards Lacy Street. Due to the male walking closely matching the description of who the complainant was calling on I turned around and parked my patrol vehicle behind the three subjects.

As I exited my patrol vehicle the male matching the description made by the complainant began walking away. I gave a verbal command for the male to stop and he continued to walk away. I asked the two males on bicycles if they knew who he was and they advised that they did not and that they had just left the boys and girls club. I began following behind the male who at this time began walking faster. I continued attempting to get him to stop and he continued walking.

Once in the parking lot area of 501 Pine Park Street the male turned around and began yelling at me asking me what I wanted. I advised him that I needed to get his name and date of birth. He asked if he was under arrest and I informed him he was not. He then asked if he was detained and I informed him that he was. The male continued to be agitated and yelling, questioning why I stopped him.

I explained to him that he matched the description of a male who had been jumping in front of cars. He continued yelling and stated that he had just came from his house. He then asked what the description was and once I told him he stated that he was not a black male he was an American. I again told him I just needed his name and date of birth and he began asking me what my name was.

Once I identified myself he told me that Sergeant Silverberg was not my name and that I was not a Sergeant. He told me I was a human being. Officer Hunt arrived on scene and I again told him I needed him to identify himself due to me being called about him. He continuously stated that he was not going to identify himself and that if we were going to take him it wasn’t going to be easy.

Officer Hunt arrived on scene at which time the male got on his knees. As Officer Hunt exited his patrol vehicle the male stood up and began yelling and cussing once again causing a scene. Officer Smith arrived on scene and the male made a comment about not being under arrest. I advised him at this time he was under arrest and he began backing up away from us. I pulled my department issued taser and told him that if he did not stop he was going to get tased.

He changed direction and began walking towards the middle of the parking lot. Officer Smith grabbed his right arm and I grabbed his left arm. We placed his arms behind his back and into cuffs. The cuffs were double locked and checked for fit. The male would not walk to the patrol vehicle and instead fell to the ground stating we would have to carry him. He was carried to the patrol vehicle at which time he was searched. In his front left pocket of his shorts a clear baggy of suspected marijuana was located. The weight of the marijuana was less than an ounce.

The male was transported to the Monroe Police Department where he was fingerprinted on a rapid ID. A “HIT” came back and identified him as John Jones. Mr. Jones was still disorderly and obviously intoxicated. Due to his demeanor and the threats he was going to fight when let out of cuffs he was not fingerprinted at this time. He as transported to the Walton County Jail by Officer Goodwin and Corporal Jones. The marijuana was placed in evidence.

Warrants were secured on Mr. Jones for obstruction, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and disorderly conduct.
