On March 20th, 2025, I (Officer Wright #355) responded to a call of “Shots Fired” in the area of Monroe Estates. Prior to my arrival, Ofc. Smith and Ofc. Higgins located the original scene on Old Mill Point. They advised over the radio the suspect fled the scene on foot out of Monroe Estates. From my knowledge of the area, I know there to be several trails which are heavily traveled on foot that lead out of the apartment complex. When I arrived in the area I stopped on Towler Street near the powerlines and watched the foot path that leads back towards Felker Park, while attempting to setup a perimeter for the suspect. A short time later, Sgt. Gee advised over the radio he had contact with the suspect inside of Felker Park. I drove over to the park to assist with the apprehension of the suspect. Sgt. Gee had already taken the suspect into custody when I arrived, and the suspect was secured in the rear of a patrol vehicle.
I was then instructed to go to [700 BLOCK] W Creek Circle and secure the residence in perpetration of a search warrant. When I got to [700 BLOCK] W Creek Circle, I along with several other officers conducted a safety sweep of the residence and secure the house until further notice. Several officers remained on scene and I returned back in service to answer pending 911 calls.
Later on in the shift, I spoke with Detective Pearce, who requested I give Omari Mott a ride back to the scene so he could show officers where he threw his firearm. Mott instructed me to take him near the powerlines (where I originally stopped) and he would show me the area where he threw the firearm. Mott was escorted down the powerlines to the path in between Felker Park and Monroe Estates. Mott showed me and multiple detectives where he began to disassemble his gun and throw the pieces of the gun into the woods as he traveled to Felker Park. I then transported Mott back to the City of Monroe Police Department where I placed him in interview room #3 and turned him over to CID.
