On 28 March 2026 at 15:31 hours, I, Officer Cohen, was patrolling the area of Roosevelt Street and Maple Street.
I observed a Black male operating a black electric scooter on Maple Street. I observed the male fail to stop at the stop sign located at Maple Street and Roosevelt Street. The male acted with reckless disregard for the safety of other motorists, pedestrians, and himself. I then positioned my patrol vehicle behind the male on the scooter and activated my emergency equipment. The male pulled into the driveway of [600 BLOCK] Maple Street, looked at my patrol vehicle, and then accelerated on the scooter toward the rear of the residence.
At this time, Officer Arriaza #365 and I pursued the male on foot. The male dropped the scooter and began running toward the rear of the residence and toward East Marable Street. Shortly thereafter, the male ran directly into Officer Arriaza and complied with officers’ commands. I placed the male in handcuffs behind his back. The handcuffs were checked for proper fit and double-locked. Officer Arriaza and I then escorted the male to the rear of my patrol vehicle, where I conducted a search incident to arrest. No illegal contraband or weapons were located on his person. The male was then identified as Terry Ridgeway. Terry was placed in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle without incident.
I then read Terry his Miranda Warning. Terry advised that he understood his rights and agreed to speak with officers on scene. Terry stated that the reason he ran was because he needed to urinate. I then transported Terry to the Walton County Jail, where he was turned over to jail staff without incident. Backseat was checked prior and after transport. Terry was charged with OCGA 40-6-72, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign (T521117), and City Ordinance 62-3, Disorderly Conduct (M521118).
