On 05/30/2026 at approximately 0211 hours, I, Sgt. Joseph Courtien (113), was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of West Church Street when I observed a black Hyundai Sonata traveling westbound. While observing the vehicle, I witnessed it cross the fog line and then cross over the double yellow centerline. Based on these traffic violations, I activated my emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon activation of my emergency equipment, the vehicle initially stopped in the middle of the roadway for several seconds before eventually pulling to the side of the road. I approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Anquanesha Glawson. I introduced myself and explained the reason for the traffic stop.

While speaking with Ms. Glawson, I immediately detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person. I also observed that her eyes were glazed and watery, and she avoided making direct eye contact during our conversation. I asked Ms. Glawson how much alcohol she had consumed that evening. She responded by stating, “I’m good.” I clarified that I was not asking if she was good and again asked how much she had to drink. Ms. Glawson then stated that she had not consumed any alcohol.

Based on the odor of an alcoholic beverage, her driving behavior, and my observations of her physical condition, I suspected that Ms. Glawson was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. I requested that she exit the vehicle and perform standardized field sobriety evaluations, to which she agreed.

I first administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. I explained the test instructions and advised Ms. Glawson to keep her head still and follow my finger with her eyes only. After confirming that she understood the instructions, I began the evaluation. During the test, Ms. Glawson repeatedly moved her head while attempting to follow my finger, preventing the test from being conducted properly and rendering the results invalid.

I then proceeded with the Walk-and-Turn test. I explained and demonstrated the test and asked Ms. Glawson if she understood the instructions, to which she replied that she did. While attempting to place Ms. Glawson in the starting position, she was unable to maintain her balance and repeatedly stumbled. During this time, Ms. Glawson stated that she was “not from here,” that she was from Macon, and that she was “a whole a*s teacher.” Ms. Glawson then advised that she no longer wished to continue with the field sobriety evaluations.

Based on my observations of Ms. Glawson’s driving behavior, the odor of an alcoholic beverage, her glazed and watery eyes, her inability to maintain balance, her performance during the field sobriety evaluations, and my training and experience in DUI detection, I determined that she was under the influence of alcohol to the extent that it was less safe for her to operate a motor vehicle.

Ms. Glawson was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and was handcuffed behind her back, checked for proper fit and double locked. She was then secured in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle. I read Georgia Implied Consent Notice for suspects age 21 and over, requesting a state-administered chemical test of her blood. Ms. Glawson refused the requested test.

Ms. Glawson was transported to the Sandersville Police Department, where she was fingerprinted, issued two citations, and served with a DDS Form 1205. Upon completion of processing, Ms. Glawson was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and turned over to jail staff without further incident. Ms. Glawson’s Vehicle was turned over to her mother.
