Whitfield County (June 3, 2022) – The mother of a Dalton teenager reported to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office that she believed her daughter had been raped over several years, beginning when she was eight years old until she turned twelve after the girl wrote a note detailing the abuse.
The victim identified Randy Adam Patterson, 45, of Dalton, as the person who had sexually abused her.
The girl told her mother in the letter that Patterson had been raping her for four years and stopped when she began having her period.
The night before the teen wrote the letter, she said Patterson woke her around 2 AM to let the dogs out. When she came back inside, he was sniffing her dirty underwear.
The girl was uneasy and afraid he would begin raping her again. She wrote the letter, telling her mother for the first time about the sexual abuse.
Detectives notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and reported the rape to the Department of Family and Children Services.
Detectives coordinated with The Green House, a local child advocacy and sexual assault center, for the child to be interviewed and examined.
As a result of the investigation, Patterson was arrested on November 17. He was charged with rape, child molestation, aggravated sodomy of a person under ten years of age, aggravated child molestation, and statutory rape. This case is currently pending in court.

[NARRATIVE #1 on June 03, 2022]
On June 3rd 2022, Detective Hicks spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] at the Whitfield county Sheriff’s Office in reference to a possible child molestation. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] provided the following information.
On this date, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] received a hand written letter from her [REDACTED BY AGENCY] daughter. Her daughter is identified as [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised her mother in the letter that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Randy Patterson, has been having sex with her. This has been happening from the time she was approximately eight years old to twelve years old.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised in the letter last night on 06-02-22 Randy woke her up at approximately 0200 hours. Randy woke her up to let the dogs out. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised in the letter when she came back into the house she observed Randy smelling her dirty laundry/ underwear. In the letter, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised it made her feel unconformable and thought he would start back with her. This was just brought to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] attention today. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] told [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Randy stopped approximately two years ago when she started her menstrual cycle. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] told [REDACTED BY AGENCY] that Randy did put his pen*s inside of her multiple times over the four years.
Detective Hicks called the green house and has an appointment set for 0900 on Monday June 6th, 2022. Sgt. Cox completed a DFCS referral. That referral was emailed to DFCS on this date. This case will remain active.
