Whitfield County (March 31, 2022) – An entire shift of officers at the Dalton Police Department responded to a North Selvidge Street apartment after a man called stating that his brother had been shot. They found the victim lying on the floor, bleeding, with his brother standing beside him.

The officers discovered one bullet hole in his left arm and one in his stomach and began to render aid by cleaning the wounds and applying pressure until EMS and Fire arrived. The victim declined to provide any information, while the caller told them it was “a black guy.”

The officers identified several shell casings outside the apartment’s front door and placed them into evidence. They searched the area for the suspects and canvassed the neighborhood for information; however, no one with whom they spoke saw or heard anything.

Gabriel Adams, the accused shooter was arrested on April 8, 2022 for aggravated assault with a firearm, murder, and murder with malice. On January 13, 2023, officers booked his alleged accomplice, Kyera Deshae Betton, for the same three charges. This case is active and currently pending in court.

Not his first arrest, Adams was charged with battery, reckless conduct, aggravated assault with a gun, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and willful obstruction of law officers-misdemeanor on May 30, 2021.

On 3-31-2022 at around 0251 hrs, I, Officer Castillo, responded to a call from dispatch in reference to a shooting that had just occurred. Dispatch advised that a 3rd party caller was saying that their brother had been shot at [800 BLOCK] North Selvidge Street Apartment #[REDACTED].

The entire shift responded to this call. I was first to arrive on scene and began looking for the correct apartment number. The apartment was on the other side of the building not facing out towards Selvidge Street. I went around the back and came across the first apartment that had the door open. I could see a white male subject standing there and another white male subject laying on the floor and appeared to be bleeding. The male standing said that he had found his brother like that. By now the entire shift was on scene. We were able to get this subject outside and I began to look over the male subject that had been shot.

The male was shirtless and was laying on his left side with his head facing the wall. I put on gloves and then went down to try and see where he had been shot. While I was doing this, Officer McDaniel noticed several shell casings in the floor. I was able to see a bullet wound on the subjects left arm and another bullet hole on the subjects left stomach area. The bullet holes were bleeding; with other officers help, I was able to try and clean the subject off to see how many bullet wounds he had. I still only saw two and began to apply pressure to the wound on the arm.

While waiting for EMS and fire, I asked the subject who had done this to him. The subject would only say that a “black guy” had shot him. The victim would not give any other information. Fire and EMS arrived on scene and they took over medical help for the victim. Myself, Officer Morang, and fire were able to pick up the subject and carry him to a stretcher.

After turning the victim over to EMS, Officer McDaniel noticed several shell casings outside in front of the apartment. I was able to get my evidence markers to protect several of the shell casings. I then asked several of the other officers on scene to start a neighborhood canvas of the area.

Officer Jenkins and I went around to several of the houses.
