On March 18th, 2026, I responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in reference to a hit & run. Once on scene, I made contact with the caller, [VICTIM #1].
[VICTIM #1] stated he was inside his apartment eating dinner. While eating, he stated he heard a collision just outside his apartment. [VICTIM #1] stated he went outside and noticed a red Dodge Ram truck leaving the scene. He stated he inspected his vehicle and noticed that it had been struck. [VICTIM #1] stated the red truck belongs to a neighbor that lives in the same building. I then inspected the damage on [VICTIM #1]’s vehicle. The damage looked fresh and I could see red paint transferred onto his vehicle. I then walked to the south of the building in attempts to located the red truck. The red truck was not on scene.
Later on in the shift, I passed by the apartment complex and noticed a red Dodge Ram 1500, parked in front of apartment [REDACTED]. I ran the license plate on it and it came back registered to a Daniel Holland. As I got out of my patrol vehicle, Daniel exited apartment [REDACTED]. I then spoke with Daniel and advised him his truck had been involved in an accident I was investigating. Daniel stated his truck had not been involved in any accident and that he had been at his apartment all night.
I advised Daniel I knew this claim to be false and due to canvassing the area earlier and his truck not being on scene. I also advised Daniel someone saw his truck leave the scene. Daniel insisted he did not know what I was talking about and that his truck was not involved in a crash. I then inspected the truck and located damage on the left side towards the rear that matched the damage on [VICTIM #1]’s vehicle.
The damage on the truck looked fresh and was missing some paint. The paint on the truck also matched the paint that was transferred on to [VICTIM #1]’s vehicle. I pointed this out to Daniel. Daniel claimed his truck had damage all over it. However, I explained to Daniel that this particular damage was recent. I took pictures of both [VICTIM #1]’s and Daniel’s vehicle. They are attached to this report.
I then placed Daniel in handcuffs and advised him he was under arrest for leaving the scene of an accident. I checked the handcuffs for fitment and double locked them. I then searched Daniel incident to arrest. I then placed Daniel in the back of my patrol vehicle and secured him. I then transported Daniel to the Whitfield County Jail. Once at the jail, I secured my firearm in the lock box. Daniel was turned over to booking personnel. Prior to leaving the jail, I searched the back of my patrol vehicle.
Daniel was charged with the following
- Leaving the scene of an accident 40-6-270
[End of Narrative]
