On June 25, 2026, Deputy Robinson and Deputy Kadinger responded to the Exxon Food Mart located on S. Thornton Ave. in reference to Dalton PD advising a woman had been assaulted, and the assault happened in the county.

Upon arrival, Deputy Robinson spoke with a Dalton PD officer who stated the female, later identified as [VICTIM #1], stated to him that she and her boyfriend, later identified as Joshua Scoggins, had been drinking alcoholic beverages and got into an argument that turned into a physical altercation. The officer advised that Miss [VICTIM #1] stated Mr. Scoggins threw her keys and phone out into her yard and so she got into his truck and drove away.

The officer had called for EMS, which was on scene before deputies arrived. Deputy Robinson then walked on to the EMS truck to speak with Miss [VICTIM #1], who stated she came home from work around 12:40 PM and noticed Mr. Scoggins was waiting for her at her residence. Miss [VICTIM #1] stated she and Mr. Scoggins were in a romantic relationship when she got out of jail, and they also lived together because she was homeless and Mr. Scoggins allowed Miss [VICTIM #1] to stay with him.

Miss [VICTIM #1] then stated that Mr. Scoggins had brought alcoholic beverages with him, and they started drinking. Miss [VICTIM #1] stated that as they were drinking, she told Mr. Scoggins she did not want to be in a relationship with him, and that is when Mr. Scoggins accused Miss [VICTIM #1] of cheating on him. Miss [VICTIM #1] then stated that she and Mr. Scoggins got into a physical altercation that led to Miss [VICTIM #1] having multiple scratches on her body, a puncture wound on her nose from where Miss [VICTIM #1] stated Mr. Scoggins bit her, and Miss [VICTIM #1] stated she bit him on the arm in self-defense.

Miss [VICTIM #1] stated that at one point during the altercation, Mr. Scoggins threw her car keys and cellphone in the yard. Deputy Robinson asked Miss [VICTIM #1] what kind of phone it was, along with the color, value, and if she had a case on the phone. Miss [VICTIM #1] stated she had an iPhone 17 Pro Max, it cost approximately one thousand five hundred dollars, and the case had mushrooms on it. Miss [VICTIM #1] also had red marks around her neck, and when asked where the red marks came from, Miss [VICTIM #1] stated Mr. Scoggins had put his hand around her neck and applied pressure. Miss [VICTIM #1] stated that at that point, she felt like she could not breathe and was in fear for her life.

Miss [VICTIM #1] was then asked if Mr. Scoggins lived with her, to which she stated no. Miss [VICTIM #1] was then asked if Mr. Scoggins was still at her residence and what her address was, and Miss [VICTIM #1] stated Mr. Scoggins should still be there and her address was [100 BLOCK] Loyola Way, apartment [REDACTED]. Deputy Robinson then gathered Miss [VICTIM #1]’ information then photographed her injuries.

Deputy Robinson then advised dispatch to have a wrecker come and pick up Mr. Scoggins vehicle. Deputy Robinson then contacted Deputy Avia and Deputy Beach and had them assist due to not knowing if Mr. Scoggins would be belligerent or not.

Upon arriving at the [100 BLOCK] Loyola Way address, Deputy Kadinger noticed a male subject standing in the yard in front of Miss [VICTIM #1]’ apartment. Deputies got out with the male, and Deputy Robinson asked if his name was Josh Scoggins, to which the male said yes. Deputy Robinson then observed dried blood on Mr. Scoggins’ face as well as a bump on the corner of his left eyebrow, and his nose and left ear were swollen.

Deputy Robinson then asked Mr. Scoggins what happened, and Mr. Scoggins stated Miss [VICTIM #1] had struck him in his face multiple times and was going crazy. Deputy Robinson asked Mr. Scoggins if he was waiting at Miss [VICTIM #1]’ residence before she came home, and Mr. Scoggins stated he arrived at her house at 11:50 PM because he knew Miss [VICTIM #1] got off work around 12:00 AM, but she had messaged him asking him to come over to have sex.

Mr. Scoggins stated he also brought alcoholic beverages with him because she asked him to. Mr. Scoggins stated he does not drink, but only drinks with Miss [VICTIM #1], so she does not feel bad for drinking by herself. Mr. Scoggins then stated Miss [VICTIM #1] started getting upset, saying he was cheating on her and told him to leave. Mr. Scoggins stated he told Miss [VICTIM #1] he was not leaving because he had been drinking, and that is when Mr. Scoggins stated he and Miss [VICTIM #1] got into a physical altercation.

Mr. Scoggins stated he never put his hands on Miss [VICTIM #1] at any point and time during the altercation and that all he did was hold both her arms to keep her from hitting him anymore. Mr. Scoggins also stated he kept telling Miss [VICTIM #1] to stop hitting him. Deputy Robinson then asked Mr. Scoggins if he threw Miss [VICTIM #1]’ cellphone and car keys in the yard, and Mr. Scoggins stated he did throw her phone, but that was in reaction to her possibly throwing his phone at some point during the altercation.

Mr. Scoggins then stated that during the altercation, a mirror was broken, and he cleaned it up and put the pieces outside. He also stated that at some point, Miss [VICTIM #1] was in a separate room yelling about her shoulder. Deputy Robinson then asked Mr. Scoggins why Miss [VICTIM #1] had puncture wounds on her nose, and why Miss [VICTIM #1] stated he bit her nose. Mr. Scoggins stated that during the altercation, Miss [VICTIM #1] bit down on his middle finger on his left hand, and her face was near his, and he told her to stop or he would bite her nose. Mr. Scoggins went on to say that he had work done on his teeth and “did not know what they could do”, but did not think he bit down that hard on her nose.

Deputy Robinson then asked Mr. Scoggins if Miss [VICTIM #1] had hit him anywhere else on his body, and Mr. Scoggins proceeded to lift his hoodie, showing his stomach and chest. Deputy Robinson then observed scratch marks on Mr. Scoggins’ stomach and chest, and then Mr. Scoggins stated Miss [VICTIM #1] also hit him in the groin area. Deputy Robinson then asked Mr. Scoggins to turn around so as to see if there were any markings on Mr. Scoggins’ back. Mr. Scoggins then starts to turn around, and as his back turns towards Deputy Robinson, Deputy Robinson observed scratch marks starting on the middle of Mr. Scoggins’ back and noticed the scratch marks were going down at an angle.

Deputy Robinson then asked Mr. Scoggins for his ID, and he stated it was in his wallet, which was on the trunk of Miss [VICTIM #1]’ vehicle. Deputy Robinson then went to retrieve the ID and noticed car keys lying on the ground lying near the broken mirror that Mr. Scoggins cleaned up. Deputy Robinson also noticed Miss [VICTIM #1]’ cellphone lying on the hood of her vehicle, and it appeared to have condensation on it.

Deputy Robinson then took Mr. Scoggins’ ID and ran his information through the National Crime Information Center(NCIC) and found that his license has been expired since 06/06/2026. Deputy Robinson then walked back over to Mr. Scoggins and advised him to place his hands behind his back and that he was being placed under arrest. Deputy Robinson then placed handcuffs on Mr. Scoggins, double-locking them so that they would not tighten, then had Deputy Avila transport him to the Whitfield County Detention Center.

During the conversation with Mr. Scoggins, Deputy Robinson asked him multiple times if he would like EMS to come look at his injuries, and Mr. Scoggins refused. Before transporting Mr. Scoggins, Deputy Robinson photographed Mr. Scoggins’ injuries, as well as the location of the car keys, the broken mirror, and the cellphone.

Deputy Robinson and Deputy Kadinger then went to the Hamilton Medical Center to return Miss [VICTIM #1]’ car keys and cellphone. Deputy Robinson also asked Miss [VICTIM #1] if she would allow him to look through the messages between her and Mr. Scoggins to corroborate what Mr. Scoggins had stated at her residence, which was that Miss [VICTIM #1] asked Mr. Scoggins to come over. Miss [VICTIM #1] stated there were hardly any messages between them and that it was mostly phone calls.

Deputy Robinson and Deputy Kadinger then left the hospital and went to the Whitfield County Detention Center to begin the warrant process, but were advised by the booking staff that they had refused to book in Mr. Scoggins due to his injuries and that he needed to be medically cleared by a doctor. Deputy Robinson and Deputy Kadinger then went back up to the Hamilton Medical Center and relieved Deputy Avila and stayed with Mr. Scoggins until he was discharged by the doctor.

Once Mr. Scoggins was discharged from the hospital, Deputy Robinson and Deputy Kadinger transported Mr. Scoggins back to the Whitfield County Detention Center, where he was turned over to the booking staff without any further incident. Mr. Scoggins is being charged with O.C.G.A. 16-5-21- Aggravated Assault (Family Violence) and O.C.G.A. 16-5-23.1(f)(1)-Battery (Family Violence).
