On April 22, 2026 at approximately 1940 hours, Deputy Broling responded to 3013 E Walnut Ave (Dalton Billards Club) in reference to a disturbance. This is what happened.
When Deputy Broling arrived on scene, he observed a white male in the parking lot wearing a gray tee shirt and dark colored pants with long hair dancing. When the male saw Deputy Broling he immediately threw his hands in the air and started creating distance between him and Deputy Broling. Deputy Broling got out of his vehicle and ordered the male to come to him. The male kept creating distance by backing up and was not listening to Deputy Broling.
Deputy Broling then drew his TASER in order to gain compliance. The male then complied and Deputy Broling was able to detain him The male was identified as Matthew Woletje. Matthew was acting in such a way that it would lead a reasonable person to believe he was under the influence of an intoxicating agent. Deputy Broling asked Matthew why he was getting kicked out the billards club and he stated he didn’t know. Deputy Broling asked him where he was coming from and he stated work. When he was asked where he worked, Matthew stated Los Chavez. When asked where it was, all he could say was up the road.
Deputy Broling then asked him when the last time he used drugs was and he stated he didn’t know. Deputy Broling observed Matthew’s pupils to be pinpoint. That is an indication of an opioid or large dose of a drug like methamphetamine being present in his system. Deputy Broling then asked for consent to search him and he gave consent. After he was searched, Deputy Broling placed him in the back of his patrol car so that he could speak with the caller.
Deputy Broling then spoke with the caller, [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated he is the manager of the Dalton Billards Club. He said that Matthew came into the business and started causing a disturbance. He stated he could tell that Matthew was high on drugs by the way he was acting. At one point, he thought his patrons were going to beat Matthew because of how he was acting.
[WITNESS #1] stated he then went up to Matthew and told him to leave. At that point, Matthew took a fighting stance toward [WITNESS #1] and started swearing at him and using aggressive language. Deputy Broling asked [WITNESS #1] if he felt threatened by Matthew at that point and he stated he did. [WITNESS #1] said he wanted Matthew trespassed from his business.
Deputy Broling then told Matthew that he was trespassed and going to jail. Deputy Broling then transported Matthew to the Whitfield County jail. Upon arrival, Matthew was turned over to jail staff for booking. Deputy Broling charged Matthew with OCGA 16-5-20 Simple Assault, OCGA 16-11-41 Public Drunkeness, and OCGA 16-11-39 Disorderly Conduct on Warrant #W26-659.
