Officer’s Narrative:

On May 24th, 2026, I responded to 225 N Hamilton St, in reference to a physical disturbance that already occurred. Dispatch stated the male suspect later identify as Rene Macias, had left the scene in an older black Nissan passenger vehicle. Once on scene, I made contact with the victim, [VICTIM #1].

When making contact with [VICTIM #1], I quickly notice she had dry blood on her right side of her face. I also notice some minor swelling and bruising around her right eye. I also noticed her eye was red and she had some abrasions on her chest. I asked [VICTIM #1] what happened. She stated earlier this date, Rene did not want her to go to church. She stated she told Rene she was going to church. [VICTIM #1] stated she went to church and Rene went to his brother’s house to drink alcohol.

After the service, [VICTIM #1] stated she began to walk outside towards the parking lot. She stated when she got outside, she noticed Rene standing in the parking lot. [VICTIM #1] stated she began walking back into the church and Rene began chasing after her. [VICTIM #1] stated while going up the stairs, Rene grabbed her leg, causing her to fall down to the ground. [VICTIM #1] stated while on the ground, Rene began to kick her on the face and her head. [VICTIM #1] stated all she could do was try to protect herself as best she could. [VICTIM #1] then stated Rene left the scene prior to our arrival.

On the floor I noticed there were some blood spatter. I also noticed a partial piece of a white tank top that belong to Rene according to [VICTIM #1]. I took picture of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries and they will be attached to this report. She was transported to Hamilton Medical Center by EMS. [REDACTED BY AGENCY]

I then spoke with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] was a fellow church member that assisted [VICTIM #1] after the assault. [WITNESS #1] stated she was on the second floor of the church when she heard [VICTIM #1] screaming. [WITNESS #1] stated she grabbed another church member and began to rush down the stairs. [WITNESS #1] stated the encounter [VICTIM #1] in the stairs and she noticed [VICTIM #1] was bleeding from the nose and her eye was bruised. [WITNESS #1] stated Rene was already gone.

I then spoke with [VICTIM #2]. [VICTIM #2] is [VICTIM #1]’s son, and he claimed Rene had shot his gun at their house [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [VICTIM #2] stated after taking [VICTIM #1] to church he returned home. He stated while at home, He heard what sounded like glass shattering. He stated he came out of his room but did not see anything or anyone. He stated he went back into his room and heard glass shattering again. He stated it was Rene attempting to enter the residence through the window.

[VICTIM #2] stated Rene was extremely intoxicated and was acting erratic. [VICTIM #2] stated Rene turned his truck on and the began to burn rubber in the parking lot of the residence. [VICTIM #2] stated at some point, he heard multiple gunshots. [VICTIM #2] stated Rene does own a handgun. I asked [VICTIM #2] if he thought Rene was shooting at him. [VICTIM #2] responded and that he thought Rene was just shooting the gun on the property. [VICTIM #2] stated Rene then left the residence. Moments later, [VICTIM #2] stated he went to the church to pick [VICTIM #1] up. While walking into the church, he stated he observed Rene running out of the church and leave the scene. [VICTIM #2] stated he then found [VICTIM #1] in the stair case. [VICTIM #2] stated he noticed [VICTIM #1] in the stair case with blood on her face.

[VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2] both believed that Rene may be fleeing to his brother’s house somewhere in Rocky Face. We were able to track the license plate associated with the black Nissan Sentra Rene was driving. The address listed on the registration was [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Deputies with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office went to the address in attempts to make contact with Rene and the vehicle. They were not able to locate the vehicle at the address. Myself and Officer Ellenburg relocated to the residence on Selvidge St in attempts to make contact with Rene.

Rene was not at the residence. Moments later we received information that Rene was currently at [VICTIM #1]’s brother’s house knocking on the door at [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Rene would leave prior to us arriving on scene.

Sgt Williams would shortly after locate the vehicle traveling west on M L King Jr Blvd. Sgt Williams attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. Rene fail to yield and come to a stop for Sgt Williams and would accelerate and travel west on Waugh St at a high rate of speed fleeing from Sgt Williams.

Moments later, several officers staged by Rene’s house on Selvidge St. Officer Pressley then observed the black Nissan Sentra pull into the drive way. Officer Pressley then got behind the vehicle and initiated his blue emergency lights. Rene exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot east bound through the backyard towards n Hamilton St. After a short foot pursuit, Rene was apprehended.

Rene was secured in handcuffs and searched incident to arrest. Rene was then placed in the back of my patrol vehicle and secured. Rene confirmed he was a us citizen. I then transported Rene to the Whitfield County Jail. Once at the jail, I secured my firearm in the lock box. Rene was turned over to booking personnel. Prior to leaving the jail, I searched the back of my patrol vehicle. Rene was charged with the following in warrantless arrest number 71204

• DUI less safe 40-6-391(a)(1)
• Fleeing or attempting to elude police officer 40-6-395(a)
• Willful obstruction of LEO (Misd) 16-10-24
• Terroristic threats and acts (Felony) 16-11-37
• Too fast for conditions 40-6-180
• Weaving over roadway 40-6-48
• Improper turn 40-6-120
• Traffic signal violation 40-6-21 (a)(3)

Rene’s red pickup truck was towed to the Dalton Police Department due to observing empty shell casings inside the cab through the window. A search warrant was completed and approved by magistrate judge weaver. No guns were located inside the vehicle. While [VICTIM #1] was at the hospital prior to Rene being taken into custody, she received a voice message from Rene. The voice message was sent in Spanish. In the message, I could her Rene telling [VICTIM #1] he needed his wallet. I then heard Rene state that he was going to shoot [VICTIM #1] and that he had five bullets left. He stated he was going to make [VICTIM #1] pay bad for what she had done. Rene’s phone was seized and place in P&E.
