On this day, 01/15/25, I, Officer G. Castillo, responded to [600 BLOCK] 4th Ave; [REDACTED] in reference to a disturbance. 911 Advised that 2 Hispanic males came to the caller’s door and threatened him with a knife. Upon my arrival, I met with [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated he was outside of [600 BLOCK] 4th Ave; [REDACTED] and that 2 Hispanic males walked from around the corner of the apartment complex throwing gang signs up and yelling at him “you been talking to my girl?’ “You want a problem?”. [VICTIM #1] stated one male was taller and one was shorter.
[VICTIM #1] stated that he told them no and had no idea why they were approaching him. [VICTIM #1] stated that at this moment, the taller Hispanic male pulled out a knife from his waist band and showed it to him while still approaching him and saying “you want a problem?” and yelling “MS13”. [VICTIM #1] stated that at this moment, he was in fear for his life and his families. [VICTIM #1] stated that he ran inside his apartment to grab a knife from his kitchen to protect himself and his family.
[VICTIM #1] stated that at this time, both Hispanic males had walked up to his door, and the taller one was displaying a knife while the shorter one had his hand in a “duffel bag” but would not show his hand. [VICTIM #1] stated that he believed there was a gun inside. [VICTIM #1] stated that at that moment, his mother closed the door and dialed 911. [VICTIM #1] stated that he opened the door and observed both males walking away and making “gang signs” with their hands.
[WITNESS #1], [VICTIM #1]’s mother, stated that she was inside her apartment and that she heard arguing coming from outside. [WITNESS #1] stated she saw 2 Hispanic males walking towards [VICTIM #1] and yelling and cursing at him. [WITNESS #1] stated she did not see the taller Hispanic male with a knife, but she did see the other male grabbing for something in his duffel bag. [WITNESS #1] stated that is when [VICTIM #1] ran inside. [WITNESS #1] stated that the males walked up to the front door while still yelling at [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that is when she closed the door and called the police.
[VICTIM #1] then showed me a video he captured of the males walking away and arguing with his neighbor, [WITNESS #2]. I spoke with [WITNESS #2], and she stated that she was sitting outside when she heard yelling. [WITNESS #2] stated that at first, she just believed it was her neighbor being loud, but then she heard someone calling someone else “bi*ch” and “fu*k.” [WITNESS #2] stated that she got up and saw [WITNESS #1] slam the door because it looked like both males tried to get inside [WITNESS #1]’s apartment. [WITNESS #2] stated she yelled at them to leave. [WITNESS #2] stated that the shorter male had his hand in his duffel bag while they walked across the parking lot toward 4th Ave. [WITNESS #2] stated that the males became very argumentative and cursing at her and that she told them to leave again. [WITNESS #2] stated that the shorter male pulled on something black in his bag a while saying, “I got something for you.” [WITNESS #2] stated that she believed it was a firearm. However [WITNESS #2] stated she never saw a weapon. [WITNESS #2] stated that the males kept on walking towards 4th Ave and eventually started running south.
While I canvas the area, I saw a male fitting the description throwing something in the dumpster on [600 BLOCK] [REDACTED] 4th Ave. I called out for additional officers on the scene, and I made my way to the dumpster. I searched the area, but I was unable to locate the individual I saw and did not find any evidence.
When I was done with surveying the area, I approached [VICTIM #1] to give him his case number. He showed me that his ex-girlfriend “[REDACTED]” had been messaging him. [VICTIM #1] stated that one of the males who approached him was his ex girlfriends new boyfriend, and in the messages, it shows [REDACTED] saying two [REDACTED BY AGENCY]
[VICTIM #1] stated that he still does not know who these individuals are but that he does want to press charges when they are identified.
