Officer’s Narrative:

On December 20, 2025 about 4:25 p.m., Patrol Deputy A. Gomez and Patrol Deputy A. Spivey of the Whitfield County Sheriff s Office, in the performance of their patrol duties responded to the residence of [900 BLOCK] Cavender Road SE to meet with the reporting parting [VICTIM #1] in regards to an assault incident.

The Whitfield County 911 Communications Center advised that Ms. [VICTIM #1] was stuck upon the head and she was choked out with a belt by a male individual. The male individual left the location in a green 1990’s model Chevrolet Silverado extended truck. The male individual’s name was provided as Teddy King. The vehicle involved in this incident is a green 1997 Chevrolet K1500 with Georgia plate [REDACTED] and its vehicle identification number being [REDACTED] and is registered [VICTIM #2] ([VICTIM #1]’s daughter).

Deputy A. Gomez was the first deputy on scene and met with [VICTIM #1]. Deputy A. Gomez was in the process of verify the male’s identification via a computer tenninal inquiry. Ms. [VICTIM #1] did confirm his identify with the inquiry as Ted William King. It was discovered that Mr. King’s Georgia driver license status is suspended. Deputy A. Gomez immediately observed Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s neck, and it was extremely red. She allowed Deputy A. Gomez to feel of her head where she sustained injuries. Deputy A. Gomez felt two large welts almost near the size of normal baseball.

[VICTIM #1] advised that she and Ted King know each other through the local drug court system. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised the Mr. King had been drinking and began saying some crazy stuff. Deputy A. Gomez had Ms. [VICTIM #1] write out a victim/witness statement. Deputy A. Spivey then arrived to render any type of assistance. He and Ms. [VICTIM #1] were on the porch discussing the matter. As they were doing Deputy A. Gomez heard the screeching of tires near the roadway.

Deputy A. Gomez then walked towards the roadway and witnessed Mr. King operating the green truck and he entered the driveway. Deputy A. Gomez proceeded walking to the truck getting Mr. King’s attention to stop as well as Deputy A. Spivey. Mr. King acknowledged the deputies and refused to stop the truck and proceeded back to the roadway leaving the residence. Deputy A. Spivey then pursued after Mr. King with Deputy A. Gomez following behind.

Deputies were utilizing their vehicle’s emergency equipment and pursued Mr. King. Once pursuit commenced, Patrol Lieutenant D. Rann, Patrol Field Training Officer Deputy S. Vazquez, along with Patrol Probationary Deputy R. Ochoa proceeded to responded to the location to render assistance. During the pursuit Mr. King violated uniform rules of the road, while on Cavender Road he failed to maintain his lane of travel and at times was in the opposite lane.

Near the intersection of Cavender Road and Antioch Road, Deputy A. Spivey performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver but was unsuccessful and Mr. King continued. Mr. King turned right onto Antioch Road and another PIT maneuver was attempted but again unsuccessful. Mr. King then continued onto Bear Creek Road and proceeded through its intersection of Abutment Road in reckless manner and not stopping at its stop sign. Mr. King then turned left onto Industrial Boulevard then at its intersection of South Dixie Highway he proceeded through without stopping at its stop with approaching motorists.

Mr. King proceeded traveling south on South Dixie Highway when Deputy A. Spivey attempted another PIT maneuver and was successful at its intersection of Lower Dug Gap Road. Deputy R. Ochoa, Deputy A. Gomez, and Deputy S. Vazquez apprehended Mr. King and took him into custody. The odor of alcoholic beverages could be detected coming from Mr. King and there were empty beverage containers in the bed of the truck. Deputy A. Spivey will be documenting a supplemental report for his involvement.

Georgia State Patrol responded to the location to render assistance and investigated the collision between Deputy A. Spivey’s patrol vehicle and the vehicle Mr. King was operating. Lt. D. Rann responded to the location to render assistance. It was said that during the pursuit Mr. King had throw out objects out of the window near the residence of [900 BLOCK] Cavender Road.

After the initial investigation of the collision and detention of Mr. King. Deputies responded back to the residence of [900 BLOCK] Cavender Road to recover thrown property and collect more details of the incident. Georgia State Patrol aided in transporting Mr. King to the Whitfield County Detention Center. It was found the Mr. King was unresponsive so he was then transported to the Hamilton Medical Center in which custody exchange was done with Sergeant S. Giles.

Once back at the residence, Deputy A. Gomez spoke with a potential witness, and resident of [900 BLOCK] Cavender Road [WITNESS #1]. Ms. [WITNESS #1] advised she was in a separate room in the home when she heard a loud thump. She then went to the kitchen and found Ms. [VICTIM #1] lying on the floor. Ms. [WITNESS #1] advised that she did witnessed Mr. King with a belt in his hands as he stretching out in front of her. Ms. [WITNESS #1] advised that she did not witness the altercation.

Lt. D. Rann interviewed Ms. [VICTIM #1] and collected information. Lt. D. Rann will be documenting a supplemental report for his involvement. It was stated the Mr. King had threatened [MS. VICTIM #1] with a knife in order to take the truck. Mr. Moss did have the truck keys in her possession and the truck was turned on with a knife Mr. King had in his possession. An almost empty bottle of Corona beer was found where Mr. King had thrown objects out on Cavender Road.

[VICTIM #1] advised that she was choked from behind with a belt by Mr. King and that she had passed out and had fallen. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was not sure where the welts might have come from but possible as she fell and struck the kitchen counter.

Taking the set of facts and circumstances. Deputy A. Gomez reasonably believes the state’s violation of aggravated assault (strangulation), aggravated battery (a person of the age 65 or older), hijacking a motor vehicle, theft by taking, possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, fleeing to elude police officer, failure to maintain lane, failure to stop at stop sign, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, and DUI/alcohol/less safe were committed by Ted William King therefore he was taken in custody, handcuffed checking for fit and double locked. Mr. King was then transported to the Whitfield County Sheriff s Office Detention Center. Mr. King’s belt and knife on person were collected and submitted into the Whitfield County Sheriff s Office Evidence Division.

Following the agency’s procedure Deputy A. Gomez applied for warrant through the Magistrate Court of Whitfield County. Magistrate Court Judge S. Martin reviewed the said application and approved the following warrant.

Mr. King is being charged with of Official Code of Georgia Annotated (OCGA) 16-5-21(3) Aggravated Assault, OCGA 16-5-24 Aggravated Battery, OCGA 16-5-44.1 Hijacking a motor vehicle, OCGA 16-8-2 Theft by Taking, OCGA 16-11-106 Possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, OCGA 40-6-395 Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Police Officer, Felony, on Georgia Uniform Traffic Citation, Summons and Accusation No. 317579, OCGA 40-6-48 Failure to Maintain Lane, Misdemeanor, on Georgia Unifonn Traffic Citation, Summons and Accusation No. 317580, OCGA 40-6-72(b) Failure to Stop at Stop Sign, Misdemeanor, on Georgia Unifonn Traffic Citation, Summons and Accusation No. 317581, OCGA 40-6-390 Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor, on Georgia Unifonn Traffic Citation, Summons and Accusation No. 317582, OCGA 40-5-121 Driving While License Suspended, Misdemeanor, on Georgia Uniform Traffic Citation, Summons and Accusation No. 317583 and attached to the court’s copy is Mr. King’s driver history record to show suspension and OCGA 40-6-391(a)(l) DUI/AIcohol/Less Safe, Misdemeanor, on Georgia Uniform Traffic Citation, Summons and Accusation No. 317584 all on Criminal Warrant No. W25-2098, Case No. 2025-947398WF, Felony/Misdemeanor and attached is Mr. King’s criminal history document. He was left in the detention’s custody and this case will be considered Cleared by Arrest.
