THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old Cairo woman for stealing what officials estimated at over $3 million from her former employers over several years. Melissa Mirick was accused of transferring funds from South Georgia Law Associates, LLC, a Thomasville law firm where she worked as the office manager, to GFA Design/Build Contractors, LLC, a business in Cairo owned by her and her husband.
The GBI’s assistance was requested by the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office on August 8, 2024, following reports of misappropriated funds.
Mirick, who possessed complete control of the company’s finances, was detained and transported to the Thomas County Jail on Monday, December 9, 2024. Her charges included a felony count of theft by taking and eight felony counts of third-degree forgery, with added charges expected.

Upon the investigation’s completion, the case will transfer to the Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, where prosecution will commence.
